“Wretched” Collector Edition drops February 10th 2026!
Wretched happens to be my favorite so far. I’m reading this series as pallet cleanser’s for my brain to reset, AFTER reading my #extremehorror books (Cause shit be getting deep)
The Never After Series would also be a great place to start for #darkromance , If you are thinking about dipping your toes in. These books are also ADULT retellings of our favorite “fairy tales”. Which I think is super dope!
P.S They are stand-alones!
#QOTD Which book is your favorite from the “Never After” series?!? Ohio

... Read moreLet’s talk about the burning question many of you have: 'Is the Never After Series spicy?' As someone who’s dived headfirst into Emily McIntire’s world, I can confidently tell you, yes, it absolutely is! But let's get into the specifics, because 'spicy' can mean different things to different readers, right?
For me, these books offer a fantastic blend of tension, passion, and explicit scenes that align perfectly with the dark romance genre. It's not just about the physical intimacy; it's also about the intense emotional and psychological connections that drive the characters. Think morally gray heroes and strong, often defiant heroines. The spice factor definitely elevates the stories, making them compelling and undeniably adult. If you're looking for books that don't shy away from steamy moments and delve into complex relationships, you're in for a treat. This series is known for its high heat level, making it a go-to for readers who appreciate that extra spark in their romance novels.
What makes these books truly stand out, beyond the spice, is their nature as adult fairy tale retellings. They take classic stories we all know and flip them on their head, introducing a much darker, grittier, and more mature perspective. For example, 'Hooked' reimagines Peter Pan, but with a grown-up, sinister twist, and believe me, it's a far cry from the Disney version! The dark-themed books in this series aren't just about romance; they explore themes of revenge, redemption, and challenging societal norms, all wrapped up in an intoxicating narrative. It's fascinating to see how McIntire weaves these familiar tales into something entirely new and thrilling, perfect for those who enjoy a darker edge to their fantasy.
I found 'Wretched' to be particularly captivating, not just for its plot but also for how it handles the darker elements and simmering chemistry. Each book, while a standalone, maintains that signature dark, alluring atmosphere. The collector editions, like the 'Hooked' one with its Big Ben imagery and 'Scarred' with its moody forest scene and starry designs, perfectly encapsulate the gothic and enchanting vibes you’ll find within the pages. These intricate details often mirror the celestial and clockwork motifs you sometimes see on other dark-themed books, hinting at the intricate, often fated, paths of the characters. They truly are stunning works of art, inside and out.
So, if you’re dipping your toes into dark romance or just wondering if Emily McIntire’s Never After Series will deliver that sought-after heat, my answer is a resounding yes. It’s a fantastic entry point for the genre because while it's undeniably spicy and dark, the familiar fairy tale framework makes it accessible. Just be prepared for adult themes, complex characters, and a whole lot of delicious tension that will keep you turning pages late into the night. It's definitely a series that provides a rich, practical escape, especially after a particularly heavy read, leaving you both satisfied and eager for more. You'll find yourself completely engrossed in these twisted tales.
