To the DHS worker who remembered Eric and me from bringing us a placement before.. thank you for telling us you wanted us to say yes to this placement. ❤️

I’ve always known that everyone says yes to a baby so I’ve always wanted to say yes to older kids. But this baby was my 5th call for a baby within a week…

We still are open for emergency foster care and have recently had some older kids. I’m so thankful I can still say yes. If you’re still reading this.. here’s a gentle reminder that older kids expressing foster care can teach you so much. They are worth giving a chance ❤️❤️❤️ #childwelfare #fostercare #fostermom #adoptivemom

... Read moreEmergency foster care is a critical aspect of child welfare, providing immediate and temporary homes for children in crisis. It's common for foster parents to initially hesitate when called upon for newborns if their focus has been on older children, but many find the experience rewarding and transformative. For instance, as mentioned, receiving multiple calls in a week for infant placements highlights the urgent need and how persistence from social workers can lead to meaningful matches. Fostering older children offers unique opportunities to make a profound impact. Older kids in foster care often face trauma and uncertainty but bring rich life experiences and a capacity for resilience. Saying yes to their placement provides them with stability and a chance to thrive in a nurturing environment. Foster parents who open their homes to older kids can contribute to their healing journey and help them regain trust and confidence. Emergency foster care requires flexibility and compassion, as placements can arise unexpectedly and vary in duration. The core message from this foster mom underscores the importance of openness and willingness to support children of all ages. By embracing both newborns and older children, foster families can address critical needs in the system and provide vital care when it matters most. If you are considering foster care, remember that older kids often have rich stories to share and deserve the opportunity to be welcomed into a caring home. Beyond the challenges, fostering brings moments of joy, personal growth, and a chance to advocate for vulnerable children. Supporting and saying yes to emergency foster placements—be it babies or older children—not only changes lives but also enriches the foster parents’ experience in unexpected and rewarding ways. This approach reflects the heart of foster care: providing hope, safety, and love to children in need.
