I debated sharing this but when someone with over half a million followers is shutting down good advocacy for the kids I say yes to… I’ll speak out 😅 #influencers #adotion #fostercare
From my personal experience in the adoption and foster care community, I’ve seen firsthand how systemic racism unfortunately still impacts the chances of finding permanent families for Black children. One painful reality is that Black children often wait longer than others to be placed with families, despite the urgent need for loving homes. This isn’t about individual preferences but reflects deeply rooted biases within our systems. I recently encountered a post where influential voices in social media downplayed the role racism plays in adoption and foster care. It was disheartening because these platforms hold immense power to educate and spark change. Instead, some dismissed concerns as "virtue signaling," missing the chance to advocate for equity. It’s important to understand that wanting a child from a specific racial background isn’t about matching a child superficially but about recognizing and respecting their identity and heritage. At the same time, when prospective parents reject Black children disproportionately, it highlights ongoing inequities. By speaking out against the silencing of these vital conversations, advocates help ensure that the issues faced by Black children in foster care and adoption systems remain visible. Change begins when more people acknowledge and challenge the uncomfortable truths. If you are involved in or care about the adoption and foster care process, I encourage you to learn about how racial disparities affect children’s wait times and outcomes. Support organizations and voices committed to addressing these injustices. Together, we can help create a system where all children have equal opportunities to find permanent, loving families, regardless of race.

Glad you spoke up !!!
