My baby, Mimi
Oh my goodness, where do I even begin with Mimi? Just last night, she decided it was the perfect time to sprint across the living room, scale the curtains, and then perch herself on a bookshelf like she owned the place – all at 2 AM! I just stood there thinking, 'Mimi, why would she do that?!' It’s moments like these that make me question if my adorable furball is actually a little alien in disguise. But seriously, as fellow cat parents, I know many of you must have similar stories, constantly wondering about your furry friend's baffling behaviors. Let's dive into some of those common cat quirks that leave us scratching our heads and asking 'why would she do that?' I've certainly done my fair share of research trying to understand my little mischief-maker! The Counter-Swipers and Shelf-Clearers: Mimi is a master at this! I swear she looks me in the eye before swatting my pen off the table. It turns out, sometimes they do it for attention – any reaction, good or bad, is a win for them. Other times, it's just pure play and curiosity, especially if the object makes an interesting sound when it falls. It’s their way of exploring physics, cat-style! The Infamous Midnight Zoomies: Those sudden bursts of energy where your cat races around the house like a tiny, furry bullet? Mimi gets them often! It’s usually a sign they have a lot of pent-up energy from sleeping all day, and their natural hunting instincts kick in during the twilight hours. Cats are crepuscular, meaning they're most active at dawn and dusk. Providing more engaging playtime during the day can sometimes help curb these nocturnal bursts. Kneading, or 'Making Biscuits': This one is adorable, but sometimes those sharp little claws dig into your skin! Kneading is a throwback to kittenhood when they'd knead their mother for milk. It’s a sign of comfort, contentment, and also a way for them to mark you with their scent glands in their paws, essentially saying, 'You're mine!' When Mimi does this, I know she feels safe and loved. Ignoring You One Minute, Demanding Cuddles the Next: Cats are notoriously independent, right? Mimi can go from completely ignoring my calls to suddenly jumping on my lap for cuddles, purring up a storm. It’s just their nature. They appreciate affection on their terms. Don't take it personally if your cat seems aloof; they just have a unique way of showing love and sometimes need their space before they're ready for snuggles. Understanding your cat's 'why' can make your bond even stronger. Paying attention to their body language, establishing a routine, and ensuring they have plenty of enrichment (toys, scratching posts, vertical spaces) can help. If a behavior suddenly changes or seems out of character, a vet check-up is always a good idea to rule out any underlying health issues. What are some of your cat's most baffling behaviors, and have you figured out why they do them?
