When the waters rise and the fire burns,
You may pass through deep waters and fiery trials, but you are never alone—God is with you.

Hey everyone! We've all been there, right? Those moments when it feels like life is just drowning you one minute and burning you the next. That's exactly why Isaiah 43:2 speaks so powerfully to my heart: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." It's such a comforting reminder that even in our deepest waters and fiercest fiery trials, we are not alone – God is with us. But sometimes, when we're in the thick of it, it's hard to fully grasp that promise because we're still carrying the weight of what came before. This is where another incredible verse from the same chapter, Isaiah 43:18, comes into play: "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past." This isn’t about ignoring our past experiences or pretending they didn’t happen. Instead, I see it as a call to release the grip of past hurts, failures, or even past glories that might be holding us back from fully experiencing God's presence in our current moment. Think about it: when you're trying to navigate deep waters, carrying a heavy backpack of 'former things' just makes it harder to stay afloat, doesn't it? Dwelling on past regrets or anxieties can make our current fiery trials feel even more intense. It's like trying to run a race while constantly looking over your shoulder. God is doing a new thing, even in our struggles, and if our eyes are fixed on what was, we might miss the new path He's carving out for us. So, how do we practically "forget the former things"? For me, it starts with acknowledging them without letting them define me. It's about bringing those burdens to God, accepting His grace, and intentionally choosing to focus on His promises for today and tomorrow. When the OCR mentioned how the waters won't sweep us away and the fire won't consume us *because He walks through those moments with us*, it truly resonated. His presence gives us the strength to loosen our grip on the past and trust Him with the present. This doesn't mean our emotional pain vanishes instantly, but it allows us to begin healing. It means that even if a past experience felt like a scorching fire, we can stand firm in the knowledge that this current fire won't consume us. We can learn to release the need to understand every 'why' from the past and instead focus on the 'who' – God, who is with us now and always. By embracing Isaiah 43:18, we prepare our hearts to truly receive the comfort and unwavering support promised in Isaiah 43:2. It's a journey of faith, letting go of the old to make room for God's new blessings and strength in every season.
