SOTD: Creed Delphinus + BBW Fall in Bloom

No lie, I picked this combo mostly because the bottles would look pretty together 😆 Despite the name, Fall in Bloom has a citrusy tone to it on my skin so I figured it would balance the sweetness of Delphinus. It’s not bad, I think the Creed just overpowered the lightness of the lotion.

Sometimes it's a carefully planned experiment, and other times, well, it's just because the bottles look pretty together on my vanity! That was definitely the case when I decided to combine my beloved Creed Delphinus with Bath & Body Works Fall in Bloom. I had a feeling the vibrant orange tube of Fall in Bloom body cream, with its lovely floral patterns, would look absolutely stunning next to the elegant reddish-orange perfume bottle with its distinct gold cap, labeled Creed. But beyond aesthetics, I was genuinely curious about the scent story they could tell together. Let's talk about Bath & Body Works Fall in Bloom first. Despite its name, which conjures images of crisp autumn leaves and warm spices, on my skin, this scent takes on a surprisingly citrusy tone. It's not just a straightforward citrus, though; there's a delicate sweetness and a hint of fresh air that makes it truly versatile. I often reach for it in its body cream form, as it offers a beautiful base for layering. The creamy texture helps the fragrance really sink into the skin, providing a soft, comforting aura that lasts. It's become a go-to for adding a touch of bright, playful energy to any fragrance combination. Now, onto the luxurious Creed Delphinus. This perfume comes in such a striking reddish-orange bottle with that classic gold cap – truly a statement piece. Delphinus, to me, is a rich, almost opulent fragrance, leaning into a sophisticated sweetness. It has a beautiful depth that can really project, making it feel quite grand. I usually wear it for special occasions or when I want to feel extra put-together. Its sweetness isn't cloying; rather, it’s a refined, almost fruity-gourmand sweetness with an underlying warmth that promises elegance. My thought process behind this particular "SOTD" (Scent of the Day) combo was to use the perceived citrusy lightness of Fall in Bloom to balance the intense sweetness of Delphinus. Fragrance layering is all about creating a new, personalized signature scent. A good rule of thumb is to start with a lighter, fresher scent as your base, like a body cream or a lighter mist, and then apply your stronger, more complex perfume over it. This usually allows each layer to shine without one completely overwhelming the other. In this case, I applied the Fall in Bloom body cream first, letting it settle, and then sprayed Delphinus. In my experience, the Creed definitely dominated the lighter lotion, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it meant the citrus notes I hoped for were mostly lost. For a more balanced outcome, perhaps a lighter hand with the Creed, or even pairing Fall in Bloom with a less intensive perfume, would be key. If you're a fan of Bath & Body Works Fall in Bloom like I am, and you want to try layering, don't despair! Its unique citrusy-sweet profile makes it quite adaptable. For a fresher vibe, try pairing it with a simple white floral or a green, airy scent. If you want to lean into its sweet side, a vanilla-based fragrance or even a subtle gourmand would be lovely. I've also found it works beautifully with woody or musky scents, adding a bright counterpoint to deeper notes. The key is to experiment and see what works best with your body chemistry. Happy scent exploring, and I'd love to hear your favorite layering combos!
