Other suffixes like "-ology" indicate the study of a subject, and "-ist" refers to a specialist, e.g., a cardiologist studies the heart. Prefixes modify the meaning further, indicating location, number, or timing. Prefixes like "brady-" mean slow, "tachy-" fast, and "peri-" around. So "pericardium" means the area around the heart.
