... Read moreThe No Buy Challenge is an excellent way for college students to cultivate financial discipline and responsibility. In 2025, I’ve set forth my commitment to limit my spending to a mere four categories: clothes, food, toiletries, and transportation. Each category poses a unique set of challenges, especially for students often juggling tight budgets and social pressures. Starting with clothes, it’s crucial to assess what you already own before making any purchases. Many students inherit a plethora of outfits during their college years and often forget to utilize what they have. Emphasizing the concept of a sinking fund for clothing purchases can ease the burden; setting aside a small amount each month can help facilitate future needs without overspending. Next up, I’ll manage my food expenses, aiming to limit restaurant dining to a strict budget. By prioritizing meal prep and utilizing campus meal plans effectively, students can enjoy healthy meals while saving money and avoiding overpriced delivery services. This approach not only fuels your body but also fosters healthier eating habits. Toiletries are an inevitable purchase, but guidelines for buying only when items are nearly depleted can drastically reduce unnecessary spending. By committing to replace items only when they are almost gone, students can become more mindful of their consumption patterns. Lastly, our reliance on ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft can add up quickly. The goal here is to minimize usage whenever possible by opting for walking or public transport, thereby ensuring both financial savings and physical fitness. Throughout this challenge, I hope to share my experiences, tips, and the importance of cultivating a financially sustainable lifestyle that helps us thrive both academically and personally.

This is such a great list. I wish I would have planned better and budgeted while I was in school. It seemed like I was so behind for years after I graduated. This is a great start for college!
