Budget Class in Community🤓✅⚖️

When I was offered a limited offer for a community class called :

"Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin'-By World. "

I didn't have to think twice, not even knowing they had incentives I immediately accepted.

I had to remain teachable in the process.

I always thought budgeting didn't apply to me because I didn't have an income I never had steady pay while running my own household. And I thought if I did budget would I really stick to it since I didn't have much wiggle room as it is ?

All questions I had to get honest with myself and remind myself along the way.

The class is two days a week two hours a night in person, small group of ten. & they feed us dinner 👀🤣

Making changes first starts with a decision. Then changing thinking patterns before action. Mindset really is everything.

We also look at research showing how poverty can really affect everyone and different factors that play into it. also identifying business that may be predators and different ways to avoid them. ..to be continued I'm only in chapter two of the class so far in /Wilkinsburg

is your glass half full or half empty ? 🍷

Would this class be something that interests you?? 🧐👀✅✅❓

... Read moreThe "Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin'-By World" class is a practical program focused on empowering individuals facing financial challenges by equipping them with essential budgeting and life skills. The course emphasizes the importance of mindset change as a precursor to adopting new financial behaviors, recognizing that financial stability begins with the decision to change and a willingness to learn. Participants engage in group sessions twice a week, allowing for collaborative learning and mutual support. One of the critical components of the curriculum is understanding how poverty affects individuals differently and how it often results from systemic factors beyond personal control. The class explores research on poverty’s impact and introduces participants to practical strategies for navigating financial challenges. It includes identifying predatory business practices that disproportionately target vulnerable populations and teaches how to avoid such traps to protect personal finances. An innovative aspect of the program is the use of the "Getting Ahead Theory of Change," which helps participants conceptualize their journey from a state of financial uncertainty to stability and social integration. This theory includes mental and procedural steps guiding individuals through pre-contemplation, contemplation, and action phases to build sustainable financial habits. Activities such as drawing mental models and group discussions facilitate deeper understanding and self-reflection. Setting realistic budgets even with irregular income, developing healthy financial habits, and building resources for a better life are fundamental goals of the class. The small-group format enables personalized attention and fosters accountability. Incentives, including meals during sessions, make the program accessible and inviting. For communities like Wilkinsburg, this class serves as a vital resource to support residents in improving their financial literacy and overall well-being. The program encourages participants to adopt a positive outlook—asking if their "glass is half full or half empty"—which aligns with the broader theme that mindset really is everything when it comes to financial empowerment. This budgeting class stands out as a valuable community initiative that addresses not only the practical aspects of money management but also the psychological and social dimensions of poverty. It is a promising step toward breaking the cycle of financial instability through education, empowerment, and community support.
