REALITIES OF 🌀 HURRICANE MILTON
as a lifelong floridian who lived on the water in 2004 & 2005, i wish i could tell y’all i’m not scared. as we drove past the flooded roads and already Helene-wrecked state to evacuate for another storm, it hit me how absolutely terrifying this really is. i grew up with parents who NEVER evacuated, and luck always seemed to be on our side.
but as an adult, i believe luck favors no one. being pregnant and having a bearded dragon + a severe rare disease is rough on good days. being 4.2 miles from the landfall point as the hurricane hit seemed like it would complicate the situation.. but unfortunately, because these things can’t be predicted: we evacuated further inland but still in the path. we’re anxious but feeling grateful to be temporarily off our home island.
i will update when i can. 💕 #Lemon8Diary #florida

Many residents experienced long wait times, shortages of essential supplies, and crowded evacuation routes. In the case of Hurricane Milton, reports showcased how residents faced dire circumstances, from long drives with limited resources to uncertainty about their homecoming. While some could evacuate easily, others lacked the means or options, amplifying the sense of urgency among those who could leave. As communities rally for support, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of disaster preparedness, resource allocation, and community strength. The aftermath of hurricanes often test resilience, revealing the necessity for effective planning and support networks to aid recovery efforts for everyone affected.
