✨ Fibromyalgia + Grief ✨
What Your Body Has Been Holding…
There’s a study from Italy that found something really powerful:
People with fibromyalgia reported more losses and more grief symptoms — and the more unresolved the grief, the worse the pain.
(Casale et al., 2012)
From my metaphysical trauma work, I’ve seen this firsthand:
💔 Nearly every person I meet with fibromyalgia carries complex chronic grief — not just the loss of someone they loved, but:
• childhood neglect
• emotional abandonment
• traumatic experiences
• heartbreaks that were never acknowledged
• the grief of being unprotected
⚡ And the body holds that.
It shows up as zaps, flares, sharp pains, and exhaustion — the somatic system overwhelmed and the musculoskeletal system charged like an electrical storm.
If your fibromyalgia feels emotional and physical…
You’re right.
Your intuition is right.
Your body is right.
Healing begins when we finally listen to the grief we were never allowed to feel.
Fibromyalgia is often misunderstood as a purely physical condition marked by chronic pain, fatigue, and musculoskeletal discomfort. However, recent research and experiential evidence from metaphysical trauma work reveal a profound connection between fibromyalgia and unresolved grief. The 2012 study by Casale et al. highlights that individuals with fibromyalgia tend to experience more losses and heightened grief symptoms, directly impacting the severity of their pain. This complex grief extends beyond the loss of loved ones to include deep emotional wounds such as childhood neglect, emotional abandonment, and unacknowledged heartbreaks. These unseen griefs accumulate and manifest physically, overwhelming the somatic system and causing symptoms like electrical zaps, flare-ups, sharp pains, and profound exhaustion. The body essentially stores these emotional traumas, which can act like an ongoing electrical storm within the musculoskeletal system. Acknowledging that fibromyalgia symptoms are both emotional and physical opens a new path toward healing. Patients are encouraged to listen to and validate the grief they have suppressed or were never allowed to express. Integrating therapies that address emotional trauma, such as grief counseling, trauma-informed care, and metaphysical healing approaches, can provide relief and promote wellness. This holistic perspective empowers individuals to understand their pain not solely as a medical symptom, but as a complex interplay of mind, body, and emotional health. Healing begins when the body’s silent messages—these hidden griefs—are finally heard and processed, paving the way for improved quality of life and emotional balance.
