My hair grows more when I leave it ALONE
Four years I would over extensively try to maximize my hair growth through supplements, vitamins, eating regimens, head massages….The list goes on. Thought it all, I can’t help but notice I have experienced the most hair growth in these past three months and I did the exact opposite of what I usually do. I literally left my hair alone. I stopped the supplements, stopped the head massages, and sometimes the hair oiling. What I started doing more of is incorporating protective styles much like the one in this photo and/glueless wigs.
Over the years, many of us fall into the trap of constantly trying to accelerate hair growth through various methods—supplements, vitamins, special diets, and massages—often thinking more effort equals faster results. However, my recent experience has taught me that sometimes, less is more. After four years of experimenting with different hair care routines, I noticed the most significant hair growth in just the past three months by doing the exact opposite: giving my hair a break. Leaving my hair alone meant stopping supplements, head massages, and even reducing the use of oils. Instead, I focused on incorporating protective styles, such as glueless wigs and other low-manipulation options, which protect hair from constant handling and environmental damage. Protective styling is a fantastic way to reduce breakage and retain length because it minimizes stress on hair strands, prevents tangling, and keeps ends tucked away safely. In my experience, hair growth thrives not only from the products we apply but also from how gently we treat our hair and scalp. Over-manipulation and frequent changing of hair care routines can inadvertently cause breakage or stress follicles. By simply allowing my hair to rest and using protective styles, I gave it the environment to recover, leading to healthier, fuller growth. For anyone on a natural hair journey looking to boost growth, I recommend evaluating your regimen for potential overcare. Sometimes, stopping certain treatments and embracing simple, gentle hair care like protective styling can yield better results than more complicated routines. Paying attention to how your hair responds to products and styling will guide you to a sustainable approach, making your growth journey enjoyable rather than stressful. Remember that patience and consistency are key. Each person's hair is unique, so finding a balance between care and rest will help you achieve the best outcomes on your hair growth path.
