Everyone talks about the lake, but honestly, the initial glimpses of Mount Fuji right from the station area are breathtaking. It's not just a fleeting view; Fuji really pops into existence, often framed perfectly between the station buildings or peeking majestically over the tracks. One of the absolute highlights for any train enthusiast or photographer is catching a glimpse of the 'Fujisan View Express.' I was lucky enough to see the iconic red train parked there, with Mount Fuji serving as an incredible backdrop. It truly lives up to its reputation as 'THE RAILWAY CLOSEST TO MT. FUJI,' and seeing it in person with the snow-capped peak behind it is a picture-perfect moment. You can even enjoy scenic views from the train if you decide to take a short ride along the line. Beyond the platform itself, a short stroll around the Kawaguchiko Station area offers diverse perspectives. Even from the bus terminal, you can still catch fantastic, unobstructed views of Fuji. I loved exploring the street view in the Japanese town surrounding the station; sometimes, the urban landscape with its buildings, power lines, and cars creates a unique contrast, framing the distant, snow-covered mountain in an unexpected way. It's a blend of everyday life and natural grandeur that you don't often find. For those who, like me, love photography, the early morning light is often magical for capturing Fuji from various spots near the station. The clouds can add so much drama, sometimes partially covering the peak, making each shot unique. The majestic presence of Mount Fuji, whether it's bathed in sunlight or shrouded in a light mist, makes for an unforgettable scene. While my visit was in June, offering clear skies and vibrant greenery, I've heard that autumn brings stunning foliage complementing Fuji's grandeur, and winter transforms the entire landscape into a pristine, snow-covered wonderland. Regardless of the season, a visit to Kawaguchiko Station promises incredible Mount Fuji views that will definitely be a highlight of your Japan trip.
