Oh my goodness, where do I even begin with Corfu? This Greek island totally stole my heart! When I say 'amazing,' I truly mean it. If you're dreaming of a European getaway, Corfu should be at the very top of your list. I just had to share some of my absolute favorite highlights from my trip – the places and experiences that made it so unforgettable. First up, you have to explore Corfu Old Town. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for good reason! Walking through its narrow, winding cobblestone streets felt like stepping back in time. The Venetian architecture is just stunning, and you'll find charming little shops and cafes around every corner. Don't miss the Liston promenade, which reminds me so much of Rue de Rivoli in Paris, and the vast Spianada Square – perfect for people-watching with a coffee. I spent hours just wandering and soaking it all in. And the beaches! Oh, the beaches. Paleokastritsa was a definite standout for me. The turquoise waters are incredibly clear, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. I took one of those little boat trips from there to explore some hidden coves and sea caves, and it was absolutely magical. The monastery perched on the cliff overlooking the bay is also a must-see – the views are breathtaking. If you're looking for something a bit more unique, Sidari's Canal d'Amour is fascinating, with its natural rock formations. For a classic sandy beach, Glyfada was lovely and very relaxing. History buffs, you're in for a treat too! The Achilleion Palace, built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, is absolutely gorgeous with its stunning gardens and classical statues, especially the Dying Achilles. And the Old Fortress and New Fortress in Corfu Town offer incredible panoramic views of the town and the sea – definitely worth the climb! Beyond the sights, the food is, of course, divine. I indulged in so many delicious meals at local tavernas. Make sure to try pastitsada (a rich pasta dish) and sofrito (veal in white wine sauce). And don't leave without tasting the famous kumquat liqueur – it's a unique local specialty! My personal tip: find a little family-run taverna off the main tourist paths for the most authentic experience. Corfu truly offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. It's not just a place to visit; it's an experience that stays with you long after you've left. I'm already dreaming of my next trip back!
