I’ve been absolutely loving the journey of daily junk journaling, and wanted to share some of my favorite tips for creating spreads that really pop and feel uniquely 'you'! One of the best things about a junk journal spread is there are no strict rules. It's truly a creative playground! When I start a new daily page, I often think about a focal point. Sometimes it’s a larger piece of ephemera, like that fun TJ-Maxx tag I used recently, or a special photo. Other times, I let a collection of cute stickers, like those adorable cats, butterflies, dice, or pandas, guide my arrangement. Balance is Key: Try to balance larger elements with smaller ones. If you have a big piece, like a receipt or a label from a favorite Chili's meal, surround it with smaller decorative items or journaling space. Don't be afraid to overlap! It adds depth and that wonderful "junk" aesthetic. Color Stories: A cohesive color palette makes a huge difference. I often pick colors that match my mood or the ephemera I’m using. For instance, if I’m incorporating packaging from lovely scents like Precious Jasmine, Strawberry, or Beloved Cherry Blossom & Tea Rose, I might choose soft pastels or vibrant fruity tones to complement them, creating a truly harmonious junk journal spread. Adding 'Charm' with Ephemera: This is where the 'junk' truly comes alive! Beyond obvious things like tickets or tags, think about product packaging, old stamps, tea bags, dried flowers, or even pretty candy wrappers. Anything that catches your eye and tells a little story can become a fantastic junk journal charm. Don't discard those little labels from your purchases; they can be treasures! Sticker Power: Stickers are my go-to for quick charm and personality! Whether it’s a whimsical butterfly or a playful panda, they instantly elevate a page. I love layering them or using them to highlight important notes. Keeping Up Your Daily Junk Journal Habit Making daily junk journaling a consistent practice doesn't have to be daunting. Here are a few things that help me: Set aside a few minutes: Even 10-15 minutes can be enough to add a few elements, jot down thoughts, or glue in some new treasures to your junk journal. It’s about progress, not perfection! Keep supplies handy: Having your journal and a basic kit (glue stick, scissors, a few pens, some favorite stickers and ephemera) within easy reach makes it much more likely you'll use them. Embrace imperfection: Your journal doesn't have to be a masterpiece every single day. Some days it’ll be a grand junk journal spread, others it might just be a quick note and a small sticker. That's perfectly okay! The goal is to document and create. Find inspiration everywhere: Look at your surroundings. What can be turned into a junk journal charm?
