Unheard

It’s like shouting into a void, putting out so much energy, love, and *continued care*, only for it to vanish without a trace. The poem 'Unheard' perfectly captures that profound sense of emotional labor, those silent prayers whispered for someone who *never reciprocated*. I’ve been there, pouring my heart into situations or relationships where my feelings and efforts seemed to hit a brick wall. It’s exhausting to feel like your voice doesn't matter, or that your deepest thoughts are simply dismissed. This feeling can creep into various parts of our lives – friendships, family dynamics, even workplaces. When you're constantly putting in the effort to connect, to share, to care, and that energy isn't met in kind, it can start to chip away at your self-worth. So, what do you do when you’re genuinely *tired of not being heard*? First, acknowledge that feeling. It’s valid, and it’s okay to feel hurt, frustrated, or even angry. For me, sometimes just writing it all down, like in a poem, is a powerful release. It’s a way to give shape to the formless ache, to validate my own experience even if no one else does. Next, consider who you're trying to be heard by. Is it someone incapable of listening, or unwilling? Sometimes, the most freeing step is to recognize that not everyone will be able to provide the validation or reciprocal care you need. It's not a reflection of your worth, but a limitation of theirs. In these situations, setting boundaries becomes crucial for your own emotional well-being. Finding alternative outlets for your voice is also incredibly important. If a particular person or situation leaves you feeling unheard, seek out spaces where you are valued. This could be a supportive friend, a therapist, a journal, or even a creative community online. The act of sharing, even with a small, trusted audience, can be incredibly healing. It reinforces that your thoughts and feelings have merit and deserve to be expressed. Finally, remember to prioritize yourself. The continued care you've been extending outwards needs to be redirected inwards. What do you need to feel heard and seen by yourself? Perhaps it's self-compassion, affirming your own worth, or pursuing activities that genuinely fulfill you. While it's painful when others don't reciprocate, you always have the power to give yourself the attention and validation you deserve. Don't let the feeling of being unheard silence your true self.
