Some days, I’m just… thankful.
Thankful that my life doesn’t chain me to a desk.
Thankful that on the days I can’t cope, we can do snuggle school
and breathe slowly until my heart steadies again.
Because the truth is…
nights break me.
I get desperate.
The kind of desperate that sits heavy in my chest and makes the room feel smaller.
My mind spins, my shoulders shake, and everything I’ve lost
comes flooding back like it’s happening all over again.
I cry in the quiet.
I ache in the dark.
I fall apart.
But then morning comes —
and I get hit with mercy I didn’t earn.
Little boy asking for pancakes with extra syrup.
Smiles blooming like they were waiting for me.
Giggles filling the space where my sobs lived hours before.
A daughter’s steady presence.
Tiny signs of love meeting me right where I shattered.
I’m desperate at night.
Overwhelmed.
Undone.
And then I ’m sucker-punched by tenderness in the morning.
That’s the rhythm of my life right now:
Break in the dark.
Bloom in the light.
And be grateful for the slow days that let me hold both.
Life often takes us through emotional cycles that can feel overwhelming but also deeply human. Many people experience moments, especially during the night, when anxiety and feelings of despair become almost unbearable. These dark hours can trigger memories of loss and pain, making the world feel suffocating and small. It’s important to recognize that feeling crushed by such emotions is a natural part of healing and growth. During these difficult times, simple acts like connecting with loved ones or finding comfort in small routines can serve as powerful anchors. Having a child asking for pancakes or sharing a quiet moment of affection can bring unexpected relief, offering glimpses of light in the darkness. This balance between experiencing vulnerability and welcoming tenderness is a vital rhythm that can foster resilience. Embracing both the struggles and the joys allows us to cultivate gratitude even on slow or challenging days. Mindfulness practices, slow breathing exercises, or "snuggle school" moments, as highlighted in the reflection, can help steady the heart and soothe the mind during overwhelming times. Importantly, these practices also open the door to appreciating the love and presence around us. By sharing these experiences authentically, others can find reassurance that they are not alone in their emotional journeys. Understanding that it’s okay to be desperate and undone at times, yet still be met with kindness and hope, encourages a more compassionate connection with oneself and the world. This honest expression reminds us to hold space for both our pain and our healing, ultimately embracing the full spectrum of our humanity through the night’s break and the morning’s bloom.
