HOW TO make surface cleaner
As a kid my parents always tried to reduce the amount of waste and chemicals that were in the house. Especially in the kitchen and around the food prep areas. And I remember my dad would make a mixture of vinegar and water as the mirror cleaner and we would reuse the newspaper to wipe and create a streak free shine.
Some would argue that just buying the cleaner from the store is easier, cheaper, and most don’t have the time to make it. But for me, I feel great knowing that the first ingredient on my counter is water!
I feel great knowing I am reducing the chemicals in my home and reducing the amount of plastic waste. And I do buy in bulk that way my ingredients last longer.
Even if you are unsure I always recommend giving it a try!

Creating a homemade surface cleaner is not only environmentally friendly but also an economical choice. To make your cleaner, gather essential ingredients such as distilled white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water, and your favorite essential oils. The combination of these elements creates a powerful cleaner that effectively tackles dirt and grime without harmful chemicals. Begin by measuring 3 tablespoons of distilled white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. Combine these with 1.5 cups of water in a reusable glass spray bottle using a funnel for easy pouring. Adding a few drops of essential oil will infuse a pleasant scent and further enhance the cleaning properties; tea tree or lavender essential oils are great options for their natural antibacterial effects. Once the ingredients are mixed, shake the bottle well to combine. This DIY cleaning solution can be used on various surfaces, including countertops, tables, and mirrors. Not only does it leave surfaces sparkling and streak-free, but it also contributes to reducing plastic waste from store-bought products. Moreover, experimenting with different essential oils allows you to customize your cleaner to your personal preference.
