Tarot Etiquette (reader & client)

Tarot etiquette for readings is something I don't see discussed often, but it's a very important thing! This goes for both the tarot reader, and the client receiving the reading. Below I will go over some etiquette tips for both the client and the reader!

💙CLIENT ETIQUETTE:

•If you are waiting in line for your tarot reader to be ready for your session, please do not hover whilst they're reading on another person. This is incredibly rude, as a lot of personal information can come up in readings and they probably don't want anyone else to hear it! Please just wait your turn at a comfortable distance.

•If you see someone a reading ahead of you in an emotional state, as in crying, do not stare. Again, it's just rude. Tarot readings can be very emotional, and people should not be judged for how they react.

•If you've had tarot readings done on you in the past, do not compare the way people read tarot. You can have an opinion on which reader you think is better for you, obviously, that's perfectly fine. But if one tarot reader shuffles cards differently, does a different spread, or has a different technique- don't instantly put them off for how they physically read. There are hundreds of different ways to read tarot, none is better than the others.

•If a tarot reader has guidelines for types of readings they will/won't do, please do not push the subject to try to get a reading. If a person says they won't do health/love/career/etc. readings, it's probably for a very good reason! If you want that type of reading, you can definitely find someone else who offers them.

•Please do not get a reading if you're going to be disrespectful. If you're skeptical, or just want a reading for fun, that's perfectly fine! But don't get a reading if you're just going to poke fun at your tarot reader the whole time for something they wholeheartedly believe in.

💜READER ETIQUETTE:

•Always offer your client a breather from the reading, if needed. Sometimes readings can get very personal and bring up a lot of emotions, let them know that they have the right to take a break from it at any time- or stop the reading altogether. It's their emotions, their time, their say!

•Don't be judgy towards your clients. This may come as a no-brainer, but it's very important to mention. Let your client know from the beginning that their session is a safe space!

•Keep your readings confidential! Your clients are putting their trust in you, make sure you respect that.

•From the get-go, explain your reading style and your reading boundaries. This is mainly just to clear up any confusion for the client, as well as letting them know what they're getting into. For a lot of clients, this will be their first tarot reading, so it's better that they know what to expect. For others who have had readings done on them, odds are their past tarot reader(s) read differently than you, so it's also good to let them know what's going to happen.

•Let your clients know your tarot ethics before they pay you. They may have come to you for a certain type of reading, and if you don't do those types of readings then they have the right to know before they commit.

•Don't lie! If you're confused on something, tell your client. If you're not 100% certain on something, tell your client. Maybe you can figure it out together! Do not make up random things to make you seem better or to make more money.

🖤Overall for both the clients and the readers, just be respectful! Tarot should be a fun, meaningful, and sacred thing for both parties! 🖤

... Read moreBuilding on the crucial etiquette points mentioned earlier, I want to share a bit more about how to truly maximize your tarot reading experience, whether you're a seasoned seeker or just curious about what these beautiful tarot card decks can reveal. Beyond simply being polite, understanding the flow and potential of a reading can deepen its impact immensely. From my own journey with tarot, I've learned that a successful reading starts even before you sit down with a reader. It's about your mindset and how you frame your questions. Instead of asking 'Will I get that job?', try 'What steps can I take to improve my chances of getting a new job?' or 'What energies are currently influencing my career path?' This shift from seeking a 'yes' or 'no' answer to exploring guidance is key to unlocking the true power of tarot. It transforms the session from passive prediction to active self-discovery. When it comes to understanding tarot card reading meaning, remember that the cards aren't set in stone. Each card holds a rich tapestry of archetypal significance, but its message shifts depending on its position in a spread, the surrounding cards, and most importantly, your specific question and situation. A good reader acts as a translator, blending their intuition with traditional meanings to paint a clear picture for you. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification if a card's interpretation doesn't immediately resonate. It's a dialogue, not a monologue! Many people wonder, 'Are tarot readings accurate?' My personal belief is that tarot offers accuracy not in predicting a fixed future, but in reflecting your current energies, challenges, and potential paths. It's like holding up a mirror to your subconscious. The 'accuracy' comes from how well the reading helps you understand yourself and your circumstances, empowering you to make informed decisions. It's less about 'what will happen' and more about 'what can I do about it.' If a reading highlights a potential obstacle, it's not a doom-and-gloom prediction; it's an invitation to strategize and prepare. Effective communication during the reading goes beyond basic etiquette and is vital for a truly profound session. Don't just listen passively. If something the reader says sparks an idea or triggers an emotion, share it! This feedback helps the reader fine-tune their interpretation, creating a more personalized and relevant experience for you. Conversely, if you feel uncomfortable or need a moment, a good reader will respect that. These tarot reading protocols are essential for maintaining a safe and productive space. I’ve found that candid, respectful interaction helps both parties feel more connected to the cards' wisdom. Ultimately, engaging with tarot is a powerful way to gain perspective and clarity. By preparing thoughtfully, communicating openly, and understanding the nature of card meanings and accuracy, you're not just getting a reading; you're embarking on a journey of self-reflection and growth. Embrace the wisdom that these ancient tools offer, and let them be a guiding light on your path.
