Home Alone 2 lost in New York

It’s that time of year again. Christmas is right around the corner and perfect to bring out those Christmas movies. One of my favorite movies is Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Fun fact is it came out the day after my birthday in 1992 so I was four years old when it first came out. But I remember watching it when I was six and loved it. It’s crazy because it came on Disney last night and watched it. Now that I’m older I just find it so crazy how they lost Kevin so carelessly haha. Because did he really need those batteries right then and there as they are rushing to board. And one of my favorite part is when Marv went to try and turn the water on and he got electrocuted hahaha as a kid I would rewind that part over and over because the way he was screaming when he turned into the skeleton was hilarious.. but I also was scared of the part when he was in downtown at night that old lady and cab driver would scare the life out of me. But all in all Home Alone is a true Christmas classics and I feel like it’s not truly Christmas if I don’t watch it.

... Read moreIt's so true, Home Alone 2 isn't just a movie; it's a Christmas ritual for many of us, myself included! Every time I watch it, I find myself noticing new details or appreciating the genius behind it even more. Beyond the laughs, there's something truly special about Kevin McCallister's unexpected adventure in the Big Apple that resonates with so many people, making it a perennial 'seasonal movie' favorite. What makes Kevin such a memorable character, especially for a kid left alone for a second time? I think it's his incredible resourcefulness and resilience. Imagine being a child, separated from your family in a massive city like New York, with no cell phone! Kevin doesn't just panic; he adapts, uses his wits, and somehow manages to navigate the city, check into a fancy hotel, and even outsmart two seasoned criminals. It's a 'challenging' situation for anyone, let alone a kid, and Macaulay Culkin truly brought that complexity to life, playing a 'multiple characters' role in a sense, as he had to be both vulnerable and incredibly cunning. And speaking of those criminals, Harry and Marv – aka the 'Wet Bandits' – are just iconic. Their dynamic is hilarious, and they really are the perfect foils for Kevin. I loved seeing the newspaper Kevin holds with the headline 'WET BANDITS ESCAPE!' – it immediately sets the stage for their inevitable clash. Their slapstick comedy, especially Marv's reactions to Kevin's traps, is pure gold. For a movie with 'multiple characters' providing different layers of humor and menace, their interplay is definitely a highlight, adding so much excitement to the plot. You can't imagine the movie without them. The setting itself, New York City during Christmas, is almost a character in itself. The festive decorations, the snow, the grandeur of places like the Plaza Hotel and even just glimpsing the Empire State Building in the background – it all adds to the magical atmosphere. It's not just a typical 'seasonal movie'; it captures the very essence of a big-city Christmas, making you want to visit yourself. The idea of being 'lost in New York' during the most wonderful time of the year has a certain charm, despite Kevin's predicament. I think the film’s enduring popularity also comes from its balance of heart and humor. While it’s filled with hilarious gags and memorable lines, it also touches on themes of family, forgiveness, and the true spirit of Christmas. It reminds us that even when things go wrong, there's always a way to find joy and connection. That's why it's not just a movie I watch; it's an experience I look forward to every year. It truly stands out among 'Christmas movies' as one that defines the holiday for a generation. It makes me wonder, what's your absolute favorite trap Kevin sets, or what specific part of their New York adventure sticks with you the most? Share below!
