My theory is every 6 months get rid of SOMETHING! These were socks from over the last however many years that no longer fit or have a match so they had to go!
From my personal experience, decluttering is much more manageable when you set a regular schedule, like every six months. I found that tackling specific items, such as socks that no longer fit or don't have a pair, can make the process less overwhelming. It’s easy to hold onto things out of sentiment or 'just in case,' but keeping items that no longer serve you only adds unnecessary clutter. I also learned that it’s okay to be a bit controversial, as one common thought says: "Throw it away if it doesn't serve its purpose any longer." This mindset really helped me decide what to keep or throw out. After all, the goal is to create a living space and wardrobe that truly supports your lifestyle. Another tip I found helpful is to create designated donation or discard bins. Every six months, I go through my sock drawer and other parts of my wardrobe, placing items into these bins. It's incredibly satisfying to see the difference in my space and feel lighter. Applying this habit consistently not only keeps your wardrobe organized but also helps you appreciate what you have. Plus, it can save you time getting ready since you don’t have to sift through clutter. If you haven't tried this six-month purge, I highly recommend giving it a shot—it really made a positive difference in my life.
