New school ✨ new team ✨ new 🏐👟
Transitioning from a private to a public school can be a significant change, both academically and socially. For athletes, one of the biggest challenges is adjusting to a different team environment, especially when you need to try out rather than automatically joining the team as you might have before. When I switched from a private to a public school, I realized that the tryout process was much more competitive. Unlike my previous school, where volleyball was more relaxed and less competitive, public schools often have larger student bodies and more athletes trying out for the team. This means you really have to prove your skills and work hard during practices and tryouts. One of the key lessons I learned during this transition is the importance of preparation and mindset. Knowing that I had to actually earn my spot pushed me to practice more on my own time, improve my footwork and serving techniques, and stay mentally focused. It also meant forming new relationships with teammates and coaches, which is essential for building trust and team chemistry. Another aspect that stood out was the difference in coaching styles. Public school coaches often have more structured training regimens and emphasize teamwork and communication. This experience helped me grow not only as a player but also as a team member willing to support others. If you're moving from a private to a public school and plan to try out for a sport like volleyball, my advice is to embrace the challenge, stay positive, and use it as an opportunity to grow. It might be intimidating at first but trying out can open doors to making new friends, gaining new skills, and developing resilience. Overall, this experience taught me that switching schools is more than just an academic change—it’s a chance to reinvent yourself, step out of your comfort zone, and push your limits in sports and beyond.
