Half a year has passed...If you ask me which one of the "most valuable" gadgets in the last six months, say it's not the latest iPhone or Mac, it's this old External SSD SATA! 💾✨
As a Data Analyst who likes to try something new, I've been playing Local AI on the MacBook Air M2 lately, but the problem is that the 256GB of space in the machine is not really enough. I bought a new SSD M.2, and I regret the budget, so I tried the old SATA 2.5 SSD stored in the drawer to dust it.
Sense after real use:
Frankly, it was initially an insult to SATA speed, but when it was set up as Ollama's Model repository and a general file safe, I found that it was very "adequate" because the Generate speed was powered primarily by M2 chips and RAM.
What has been learned in half this year:
Maybe "Best" isn't the newest thing, but it's the thing that we pull out the performance for the most part to answer our problem. Anyone who is having a full Mac space problem, try digging the old stuff like me. Save a lot of budget!

ในฐานะคนที่เคยประสบปัญหาพื้นที่จัดเก็บข้อมูลน้อยบน MacBook Air M2 ขนาด 256GB ผมเข้าใจดีว่าการซื้อ SSD M.2 ใหม่ราคาแพงแค่ไหน ซึ่งการที่ได้ลองนำ External SSD SATA 2.5" ตัวเก่าที่เก็บไว้ในลิ้นชักมาปัดฝุ่นใช้ ทำให้ผมค้นพบว่าของเก่าที่เรามีอยู่แล้ว ยังสามารถนำกลับมาใช้และตอบโจทย์การใช้งานยุคนี้ได้อย่างคุ้มค่า จากการใช้งานจริง พบว่าแม้ความเร็วของ SATA จะช้ากว่า M.2 แต่มาถึงจุดนี้ ความเร็วไม่ใช่ปัจจัยหลักทั้งหมด เพราะชิป M2 และ RAM ใน MacBook Air ช่วยประมวลผล Local AI หรือ Ollama Model ได้ดีในตัวเอง การเก็บไฟล์โมเดลและงานทั่วไปไว้ใน External SSD SATA ช่วยป้องกันการเต็มของพื้นที่ในเครื่องได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ นอกจากนี้ยังช่วยลดภาระการจัดการข้อมูลใน iCloud ที่เคยมีปัญหาเก็บรูปและไฟล์มากเกิน จนทำให้ต้องลบหรือเก็บใน Cloud Storage แยกต่างหาก การคืนชีพ SSD SATA ตัวเก่านี้จึงถือเป็นตัวเลือกที่ดีสำหรับคนที่ต้องการเพิ่มพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูลแบบไม่ต้องลงทุนสูง ประสบการณ์นี้สอนให้รู้ว่า "ของดีที่สุดไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็นของใหม่ที่สุด" แต่คือของที่เราสามารถใช้ประโยชน์ได้เต็มที่และเหมาะสมกับงบประมาณและการใช้งานของเรา ใครที่ใช้ Mac และมี SSD SATA เก่าหรือ External HDD ลองนำมาใช้ประยุกต์แบบนี้ดูนะครับ นอกจากประหยัดแล้วยังช่วยลดขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์อีกด้วย สุดท้าย ผมอยากชวนทุกคนคอมเมนต์แชร์ว่า Gadget วันที่ผ่านมาชิ้นไหนที่คิดว่าคุ้มค่าหรือเสียเงินไปโดยเปล่าประโยชน์ เพื่อเป็นประโยชน์ต่อชุมชนคนรักไอทีและ Gadget กันครับ!
