Despite the pain and hardships, including being placed in foster care at 16 due to family challenges, the memories of learning construction and development from him remain precious. These moments taught me resilience and practical skills, even though the emotional scars left behind cause nightmares and unresolved feelings.
Visiting the family home recently to take pictures was an emotional experience. The house, where many difficult incidents took place, also stands as a monument to my dad’s legacy and the time we spent fixing it together. It’s a bittersweet reminder of the duality of love and trauma that can coexist in family relationships.
Praying daily and reflecting on the past helps me process the complicated emotions surrounding my father. While the past can be painful, holding on to the lessons he taught me has been empowering. For anyone who has experienced similar struggles with parental relationships but still longs to honor their family ties, I encourage embracing both the memories and the healing journey with patience and compassion.
