What is privacy 😩
I know all my mommas know EXACTLY what is happening here. Ain’t no one getting privacy when you have little ones. Yes, eventually they grow out of the stage of constantly wanting to be up ya butt , EVENTUALLY.
I started this post with a simple sigh: 'What is privacy?' And honestly, as a mom of little ones, it's a question I ask myself daily! For those of you without tiny humans shadowing your every move, let me paint a picture. 'Personal privacy' becomes a relic of the past. Remember those days you could go to the bathroom alone? Or have a phone call without a small voice interjecting, 'Who dat?' Ah, sweet, sweet solitude... a distant memory! It’s not just about physical space either. My thoughts, my snacks, even my work calls become a 'family affair.' The concept of 'privacy family' takes on a whole new meaning when you have little ones; it's less about personal boundaries and more about collective living. They're curious, they're attached, and honestly, they just want to be where you are – even if that means under your feet while you're trying to cook dinner or peering over the top of the bathroom door. I've had more 'audience members' for my morning routine than I can count! My phone is no longer just my phone; it's a portal to Cocomelon, a teething toy, or a canvas for sticky fingers. It’s truly a testament to the love we have that we can still function (mostly) when our personal space is constantly being redefined by tiny, adorable dictators. So, how do we navigate this glorious, chaotic lack of personal space? I’ve learned to embrace the 'new normal.' My morning coffee is often consumed with a toddler perched on my lap, and my evening shower might be accompanied by the sound of little hands banging on the door, demanding to know 'what you doing, Mama?' It’s challenging, no doubt, and sometimes I do yearn for just five minutes of uninterrupted quiet. I even fantasize about finishing a thought without interruption or reading a book cover-to-cover again! But then I look at their sweet faces, and I remember this stage is fleeting. Eventually, they'll grow, they'll seek their own independence, and maybe, just maybe, I'll get to finish a thought without interruption again. Until then, I cherish these moments, even the ones where my personal bubble has officially burst. It’s a constant juggle of finding humor in the chaos and stealing precious moments of quiet whenever possible, like that rare occasion they both nap at the same time. And what about 'parents not respecting privacy' or 'can parents invade your privacy'? While my current struggle is with my kids invading my privacy, it makes me think about how we model privacy for them as they get older. We're teaching them about boundaries even when they're too young to understand the word. It's a balance, right? Protecting their innocence while also allowing them space to grow. It’s a conversation for another day, but it’s definitely on my mind as they develop. On a slightly different note, as parents, we also think about our kids' digital privacy. I’ve seen some searches around 'lemon8 app safe for kids' and 'personal information for kids.' While my post is about my lack of privacy from my kids, it’s a good reminder that as they get older, teaching them about their own personal boundaries and digital safety becomes crucial. For now, with my little ones, it’s all about surviving the day with a smile, finding strength in other moms who get it, and maybe, just maybe, a hidden chocolate bar.
