Candied walnuts are a versatile snack that add a delightful crunch and sweetness to many dishes. Besides being tasty, walnuts themselves are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and essential nutrients that promote heart and brain health. The process of boiling walnuts before coating them with sugar and butter helps soften their texture and allows the sugar to dissolve evenly, creating a glossy, crisp coating once roasted. For the best results, use high-quality walnuts and fresh butter. Roast them at 350°F, spreading the nuts in a single layer on parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even caramelization. Flipping halfway through roasting allows the nuts to brown uniformly for that perfect toasted flavor. Candied walnuts are excellent eaten on their own or used as toppings for salads, oatmeal, yogurt, or desserts like ice cream and cakes. You can also customize the recipe by adding spices like cinnamon or a pinch of cayenne for a spicy twist. Store cooled candied walnuts in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them fresh and crunchy for up to two weeks. This simple recipe is a wonderful way to enjoy the health benefits of walnuts while treating yourself to a delicious sweet snack.
