Kyoto Aquarium
Kyoto Aquarium is an inland type aquarium located in Umekoji Park within walking distance from Kyoto Station. The large aquarium of "Kyo no Umi" with a height of about 6 meters, an exhibition of about 20 "Giant Salamander" which is a special natural monument of the country, and "Jellyfish Wonder" with a fantastic space are popular.
Because it is an indoor center facility, you can enjoy it comfortably even on rainy days.

Main attractions
Kyoto River: Located near the entrance, you can see the giant salamander, a natural monument of Japan, up close.
Kyoto Sea: It is a large aquarium with a height of about 6 meters, and the sight of various fish swimming is a masterpiece.
Jellyfish Wonder: Approximately 20 species of 5,000 jellyfish are on display, creating a magical space. There is also an open space for breeding and researching jellyfish.
Penguins: You can observe penguins walking around in front of you up close, and their complex "correlation diagram" is also popular.

「京都水族館って結局“何がある？”」と聞かれたときに、私がまず推すのは“テーマが京都らしい”ところ。海のない京都にある内陸型だからこそ、京の川・京の海みたいに展示の切り口が分かりやすくて、初めてでも迷いにくい印象でした。 見どころを簡単に言うと、入口付近の「京の川」でオオサンショウウオをじっくり→メインの「京の海」大水槽でスケール感を味わう→「クラゲワンダー」で写真タイム→最後にペンギンで癒やされる、の流れが個人的に回りやすかったです。特にオオサンショウウオは「何がいるの？」の答えとしてインパクト強めで、展示数も多くて見応えがありました。 館内は屋内中心なので、雨の日でも過ごしやすいのが魅力。混んでいる日は、大水槽の前は人が溜まりやすいので、先にクラゲ側へ行ってから戻ってくると比較的ゆっくり見られることもありました。クラゲワンダーは照明がきれいで、写真が“それっぽく”仕上がりやすいので、スマホでも十分楽しいです。 ペンギン展示は、目の前を歩き回る距離感が良くて、つい長居しがち。相関図を見ながら「この子同士仲良いんだ…！」みたいに観察すると、ただ眺めるより面白さが増えました。 あと、撮影するなら小型水槽エリアもおすすめ。近距離で撮れるのでピントが合いやすく、動画も撮りやすかったです。私はGoProを持って行ったんですが、ガラスの反射が出やすいので、レンズをガラスにできるだけ近づける＆館内の暗い場所では少し明るさ設定を上げると撮りやすかったです。 時間があまりない人向けの目安としては、サクッと見るなら約60〜90分、写真やクラゲ・ペンギンでじっくりなら2時間くらいあると満足度高め。事前にチケットを買っておくと入場がスムーズで、当日の気分がだいぶ楽でした。
