Ukawari Falls
(Uriwari no Taki) is a spring spring that was selected as one of the 100 best waters by the Ministry of the Environment, located in the back of Tentokuji Temple in Wakasa Town, Fukui Prefecture. It was named because the water temperature does not change throughout the year and the melon soaked in it is cold enough to break even in summer.
Features and Highlights
Meisui-no-Sato: This spring springs up from the rocks in the mountains, and it is rich in mineral ingredients and has a reputation for being very delicious.
Fantastic scenery: The surrounding area is called "Water Forest," and the mysterious scenery of underground water flowing down among the mossy rocks spreads. Also, the influence of rare red algae (Benimadara) that grows only in this spring water is characteristic that the stones in the water look red.
Colors of the Four Seasons: Located in Wakasa Kuwarimeisui Park, about 10,000 hydrangeas are in full bloom in June, and you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

By car: About 15 minutes from Wakasa Kaminaka IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. Free parking is available.
Public transportation: About 20 minutes on foot from JR Obama Line "Kaminaka Station."
Estimated length of stay: About 30 minutes to 1 hour including walking. It is about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the parking lot to the waterfall.

私は以前、夏に瓜割の滝を訪れた経験があります。ネットで写真を見ると確かに涼しげな滝の風景ですが、実際に現地に行くと周囲の気温は普通に暑く感じました。駐車場は無料で利用しやすかったものの、滝までの道は上り坂があるため、暑さと坂で少ししんどかったのを覚えています。 この滝の一番の魅力は、一年を通してほとんど変わらない水温の低さです。夏でも瓜が割れるほど冷たいという名前の由来にも納得できました。この冷泉に含まれるミネラルが豊富で、地元の方だけでなく観光客にもその水の味は好評です。私は持参したボトルに水を汲みましたが、清掃協力費として300円のシールを購入して容器に貼る仕組みは、施設の管理に協力している感じがして好印象でした。 また、周りは「水の森」と呼ばれる苔むした岩と伏流水が織りなす美しい景観が広がっており、自然の神秘を肌で感じられます。水中の石が紅藻の影響で赤みを帯びている光景はとても珍しく、写真にも映えるポイントです。さらに、公園内の6月には約1万株のアジサイが咲き誇り、春の桜や秋の紅葉も楽しめて、季節ごとに訪れたくなる場所でした。 公共交通機関を利用する場合は、最寄りのJR小浜線「上中駅」から徒歩20分ほど歩く必要がありますが、車で行くと舞鶴若狭自動車道の若狭上中ICから約15分で着くためアクセスは比較的便利です。滞在時間は30分から1時間ほどで、散策のちょうどよい時間でした。帰り際は「夏は涼しい」との印象から期待値が高すぎると少し暑さにがっかりすることもあるため、季節や服装の工夫がおすすめです。 総じて、瓜割の滝はその名水としての価値だけでなく、四季折々の自然の美しさと珍しい水生植物が楽しめる魅力的なスポットです。散策には歩きやすい靴と涼しい服装で訪れると、より快適に過ごせると思います。
