There are plenty of delicacies and fresh seafood unique to the port town.
Sunfish skewers / karaage: This is a signboard menu sold at food stalls. It has elasticity like chicken, and is characterized by a light taste without habit.
Note: The sunfish stall is mainly open only on weekends and holidays.
Sanma Sushi: A specialty of Kii Nagashima, demonstration sales are also held on weekends and holidays.

初めて「マンボウ食べられるって本当？」と思って行ったのが、三重県紀北町の道の駅 紀伊長島マンボウ。結論、想像以上に“ふつうにおいしい”し、メニュー選びのコツを知っておくと満足度が上がります。 ■マンボウってどんな味？（食べ方のイメージ） 私がいちばん分かりやすいと思ったのは「淡白でクセが少ない白身系」。鶏むね肉っぽいと言われるのも納得で、脂の強い魚が苦手な人でも食べやすいです。逆に“魚の旨味が濃い”タイプを想像していくとギャップがあるかも。 ■マンボウ唐揚げ・串焼きはどっちがおすすめ？ ・マンボウ唐揚げ：衣の香ばしさで食べやすく、初挑戦ならこれが安心。レモンや塩が合います。冷めても味が落ちにくい印象。 ・マンボウ串焼き：弾力が分かりやすくて「マンボウ食べてる感」強め。焼き目の香りがご飯よりおやつ向き。 ※屋台は土日祝中心のことが多いので、狙っている人は時間に余裕を持つのがおすすめです。 ■道の駅 紀伊長島マンボウのメニュー選び（ランチ向け） ランチなら「お食事処マンボウ」で海鮮系＋変わり種の組み合わせが楽しいです。私は海鮮盛合丼みたいな定番を軸にして、マンボウフライ定食や単品を追加するのが失敗しにくいと思いました。港町なので刺身の満足度も高め。 ■一緒にチェックしたい珍味：うつぼ 売り場で“うつぼもある!!”って見かけてテンション上がりました。見た目のインパクトに反して、加工品は食べやすいものも多いので、お土産候補に入れると「三重っぽさ」が出ます。 ■長島お土産で迷ったら 初見でも買いやすいのは「マンボウナゲット」「マンボウカレー」。話のネタになるのに、味が尖りすぎてないのが良いところ。家で食べるなら、みりん干し系はおつまみ枠として強いです。 ■アクセス・滞在の小ワザ 車なら紀伊長島ICから近いので寄り道しやすいです。芝生広場とマンボウのモニュメントがあるので、食後に少し歩くと満腹感が落ち着くのも地味に助かりました。熊野古道（荷坂峠）方面の予定がある人は、ここを拠点にして補給するのもアリ。 「マンボウ 食べるってどうなの？」の答えは、まず唐揚げかフライで試すのが正解。次に串焼きで食感を楽しむ、という順番が個人的おすすめです。
