Maizuru Red Brick Park
Maizuru Akarenga Park is a sightseeing facility that utilizes the red brick warehouses of the former navy built in the Meiji and Taisho eras in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. Eight of the 12 warehouses are designated as important cultural properties of the country, and it is a representative spot of "Kyoto by the sea" where you can enjoy meals, shopping, and museum tours while enjoying historical charm.

Admission: Admission to the park is free. However, there is a charge for the Red Brick Museum in Building 1.
Parking: Capacity for about 500 cars. Starting from July 2025, parking lots in the surrounding area will be charged, and the fare is free for up to 30 minutes, and it is about 100 yen per hour thereafter.
Main attractions and facilities
Red Brick Museum (Building 1): This is the oldest existing steel brick building, displaying bricks from around the world.
Akarenga SHOP (Building 3): This is a souvenir spot where you can find Maizuru Navy curry, retro sundries, and local specialties.
Cafe / Gourmet: You can enjoy "Navy Curry" and "Maizuru Pudding" in Building 4 and the surrounding area. In recent years, a craft beer brewery has also opened.
Port tour boat related to the Navy: From the pier adjacent to the park, there is a cruise boat where you can see the escort ships of the Maritime Self-Defense Force up close.
Access
By train: About 15 minutes on foot from JR Higashi-Maizuru Station, or about 5 minutes by bus.
By car: Approximately 15 minutes from the Maizuru-higashi IC of the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway.
Events such as "Maizuru Red Brick Flea Market" are held regularly, and it is popular with families and tourists for photo shoots.For the latest event information and public release of ships, it is recommended to check the official X (formerly Twitter) etc.

舞鶴赤れんがパークは、歴史を感じながら充実した時間を過ごせる観光地として私も何度か訪れています。特に週末や祝日には「舞鶴赤れんが蚤の市」など地域密着のイベントが頻繁に開催されており、軍服やコスプレをした方々の姿を見る機会も多く、訪問するたびに新しい発見があるのが魅力的です。 赤れんが博物館では、世界各地のレンガ作りの歴史や工法の展示が興味深いです。実際に建物の鉄骨とレンガの構造を間近で見ると、明治・大正期の技術の高さに感心します。また、3号棟にある赤れんがSHOPはお土産選びにも最適で、「舞鶴海軍カレー」や「舞鶴プリン」といったご当地グルメを購入できるのが嬉しいポイントです。 さらに、敷地内のカフェやクラフトビール醸造所ではゆったり過ごせるので、観光の合間に立ち寄るのがおすすめです。私も屋外のテラス席で海風を感じながら地元のクラフトビールを楽しんだ経験があります。 パークの隣接する桟橋からは、海上自衛隊の護衛艦を間近に見学できる遊覧船も運航されています。艦艇の迫力ある姿や港の景観を楽しめ、写真撮影にも最適です。丘の頂上からの眺望も見逃せません。 駐車場は約500台収容可能ですが、2025年7月より周辺駐車場の有料化が始まったため、車で訪れる際は料金体系を事前にチェックすると安心です。公共交通機関を利用する場合はJR東舞鶴駅から徒歩かバスの利用が便利です。 個人的に舞鶴赤れんがパークは、歴史的建造物やグルメ、イベントが融合した魅力的なスポットであり、友人や家族との小旅行にピッタリの場所だと感じています。訪れるたびに季節やイベントによって趣が変わるので、リピーターも多いのもうなずけます。公式SNSで最新情報をチェックし、タイミング合わせて訪問するとより一層楽しめるでしょう。
