Kawauso no Sato Susaki
"Kawausonosato Susaki" is a roadside station in Susaki City, Kochi Prefecture. It is located near the Susakinishi Interchange of the Kochi Expressway, and it is the largest roadside station in Shikoku where you can enjoy the local gourmet "Nabeyaki Ramen" and fresh seafood.

You can enjoy the unique taste of Suzaki at the restaurant "Toreta-tei" on the 2nd floor and the direct sales shop on the 1st floor.
Nabeyaki Ramen: Susaki's soul food. It is a hot ramen based on chicken bone served in an earthen pot, characterized by hard thin noodles and simple ingredients.
Grilled bonito with straw Tataki: There is a demonstration of straw-grilled bonito on the first floor, and you can taste freshly baked bonito on the spot.
Tosa-don and Chirimen-don: Don menus with plenty of fresh bonito and chirimen are popular.
Moray eel dishes: Rice bowls and set meals using moray eels, ingredients unique to Kochi, are also served.

かわうその里すさきは、ただの道の駅ではなく、地元の食文化と自然の恵みを存分に体験できる場所です。私も訪れた際には、まず2階のレストラン『とれた亭』で熱々の鍋焼きラーメンをいただきました。鶏ガラベースのスープはやさしい味わいで、硬めの細麺との相性が抜群。土鍋で提供されるので最後まで冷めず、体が温まります。 さらに1階の直売所では、カツオの藁焼きタタキの実演が見られ、香ばしい煙とともに新鮮な魚の旨みを存分に楽しめました。実際に焼きたてのカツオを味わうことができ、地元ならではの味に感動。歴史ある須崎の食文化を感じられます。 また、ちりめん丼やウツボ料理もここならではの珍しいメニュー。ウツボは馴染みの薄い方も多いかもしれませんが、クセが少なく濃厚な味わいでおすすめです。個人的には初めて食べましたが、その美味しさに驚きました。ドライブ途中の休憩にもぴったりのスペースで、ゆったりと地酒コーナーを眺めながらお土産選びも楽しめます。 施設はバリアフリー対応で、車椅子の方も安心して利用可能。106台分の駐車場があるので、週末や観光シーズンにも便利です。また、須崎西インターチェンジから近くアクセス良好なので、四国旅行の途中にぜひ立ち寄りたいスポットです。 鍋焼きラーメンは須崎のソウルフードですが、他の店とも比較すると味の違いも楽しめるため、食べ比べもおすすめ。私も他店のものと食べ比べてみたくなりました。かわうその里すさきでの食事は、大自然の中で満たされる地元グルメ体験のひととき。高知旅行の思い出作りにぜひ訪れてみてください。
