Uji Walk ② (Uji Park)
Uji Park is a prefectural park consisting of two central islands (Tono-no-shima and Tachibana-jima) floating on the Uji River in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, and Yorimichi Park on the left bank of the river. It is adjacent to the World Heritage Byodo-in Temple and Ujigami Shrine, and is popular as a walking spot where you can enjoy the seasonal nature and historical scenery.
Main Attractions and Features
Thirteen-story stone pagoda (Toshima): It is a stone pagoda with a height of about 15 m built in the late Kamakura period, and it is an important cultural property of Japan.
Bridge connecting Nakanoshima: There are four bridges, Tachibana Bridge, Asagiri Bridge, Nakajima Bridge, and Kisen Bridge, and you can enjoy the beautiful babbling while walking around both banks of the river and the island.
Uji River Ukai: In summer (mid-June to late September), traditional Ukai is held around Tono-shima Island.
Seasonal Landscape: In spring, it is famous for cherry blossoms blooming along the river, and in autumn, the scenery is stunning against the backdrop of the autumn leaves of the surrounding mountains.
Main events of the season
Uji River Cherry Blossom Festival: Held in early April every year. Scheduled for April 4 (Sat) and 5 (Sun) in 2026, special products will be sold.
Uji Tea Festival: Held on the first Sunday of October every year, the Famous Water Drawing Ceremony is held to give thanks to the ancestors of the tea ceremony.

実際に宇治公園を歩いてみていちばん良かったのは、「宇治川の歴史を感じながら、景色の変化をテンポよく楽しめる」ところでした。平等院や宇治上神社の観光ついでに寄れる距離感なので、時間が限られていても満足度が高いです。 宇治川は古くから交通・信仰・文化の要所で、周辺には歴史スポットがぎゅっと集まっています。宇治公園の中心になる塔の島・橘島は“中州”なので、水の近さが段違い。川の流れや音を聞きながら歩くと、同じ京都でも市街地とは空気が変わった感じがしました。 見どころの「十三重石塔」は、写真で見るより存在感が大きいです。鎌倉時代後期の建立とされ、高さ約15mというスケールは近くで見ると迫力があります。石塔の周りは落ち着いた雰囲気なので、混雑していても少し気持ちが整う感じ。歴史好きなら「宇治川の歴史」目線で、平等院→宇治公園→宇治上神社の流れにするとストーリーがつながって楽しいです。 カップル散歩なら、4つの橋（橘橋・朝霧橋・中島橋・喜撰橋）を“ぐるっと一周”する回り方がおすすめ。橋ごとに見える景色が違って、会話のきっかけが自然に増えます。朝霧橋あたりは水面が近くて、風が気持ちよく、写真も撮りやすい印象でした。私はOSMO POCKET 3で歩きながら撮ったのですが、川沿いの手ブレしやすい場面でも映像が安定して、旅の記録に向いていました。 季節は春の桜と秋の紅葉が特に人気。春は「宇治川さくらまつり」の時期が華やかで、混む分だけ景色も“見頃感”があります。静かに歩きたいなら、早朝や夕方寄りの時間帯が落ち着きました。夏は鵜飼が行われるので、昼の散歩＋夜の鵜飼で“同じ場所の雰囲気が変わる”のも面白いです。 最後に小さなコツ。川沿いは体感温度が変わりやすいので、薄手の羽織があると安心。歩く距離は短めでも、橋の上り下りが意外とあるので歩きやすい靴が快適でした。宇治川のせせらぎを聞きながら、歴史と自然を両方味わえる散歩コースとして、宇治公園はかなり“当たり”だと思います。
