Ujigami-jinja Shrine is,
It is a shrine in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, and is one of the constituent assets of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Cultural Monuments of Ancient Kyoto." It has the main hall (national treasure) known as the oldest existing shrine architecture in Japan.
Main Attractions and Features
Main Hall (National Treasure): Built in the late Heian period (around 1060), this is the oldest shrine building in Japan. It is characterized by a special style that covers three shrines with one roof.
Haiden (National Treasure): This is a Shinden-zukuri building built in the early Kamakura period and uses a technique called "Sugaruhafu" with a beautiful curved roof.
Kirihara-sui: This is the only precious spring water that still springs out of the Seven Great Waters of Uji (boiling is necessary for drinks).
Rabbit Omikuji and Goshuin: Cute rabbit omikuji and a variety of seasonal goshuin are popular.

The adjacent Uji Shrine used to be a single company. There is also a history as a guardian shrine of Byodo-in Temple, so it is recommended to visit as a set.

宇治上神社は歴史的価値だけでなく、訪れる人の心を癒す自然との共存も魅力の一つです。私が 訪れた際には、時間をかけてゆっくりと本殿や拝殿の造りに目を向けることで、平安時代や鎌倉時代の匠の技を肌で感じることができました。 特に本殿は3つの社殿が一つの屋根で覆われる独特の形式で、その立体的な美しさには息をのむほど。拝殿の屋根に施された「縋降（すがるはふ）」の曲線は、光の当たり具合によって表情が変わり、訪れるたびに新しい発見があります。 また、境内に湧く桐原水は、宇治七名水の中で唯一、今も湧き続けている貴重な水です。訪れた際はぜひ手を浸し、その冷たさと静かな流れを感じてみてください。飲用時は煮沸が必要ですが、その清らかな水に古の人々の暮らしを想像すると感慨深くなります。 さらに、祭神にちなんだ見返り兎のモチーフが可愛らしいおみくじや季節ごとに変わる御朱印も旅の思い出作りに最適。多彩な御朱印はコレクターの心もくすぐります。 アクセスは京阪宇治線の宇治駅から徒歩10分と近く、平等院や宇治神社も近隣にあるため、セットで散策すれば宇治の歴史と文化を一層楽しめます。無料で拝観できる点も訪れやすくおすすめです。 私自身、宇治上神社を訪れてからは歴史を感じる建築物の見方が変わり、細部の美しさや歴史背景への興味が深まりました。古都京都の文化財を守る意義を実感しながら、ゆったりとした時間を過ごすことができる場所として、ぜひ多くの人に体験してほしいスポットです。
