Closest: walk from Panoramic way (Claremont hills) near the intersection of Stonewall - panoramic trail. Careful to park where it’s allowed.
More hiking way: Clark Kerr Fire trail up the piano stairs. Loop into stonewall - panoramic trail; when you hit the Y with Panoramic way go left. Tree swing is shortly around that corner.
Notes:
1. A lot of parking is either 2 hours max or not allowed.
2. The hiking way is very very steep and uneven terrain
3. There are three other tree swings in this area so search around once you find this one.
If you're a Bay Area hiking enthusiast like me, finding hidden gems like this tree swing in Berkeley truly makes the effort worthwhile. When I first explored the Claremont Hills area, I was amazed not only by the swing itself but also by the surrounding lush greenery and the peacefulness that comes from discovering a spot less traveled. One crucial tip: be prepared for steep and uneven terrain, especially if you take the Clark Kerr Fire trail via the piano stairs. It’s a challenging hike, but the reward is more than just the swing; you get stunning views and a chance to connect with nature in a quiet corner of Berkeley. Also, parking can be tricky—make sure to check signs carefully to avoid tickets and keep your car safe. Besides the main swing, I enjoyed searching around and found three other smaller tree swings nearby, each offering a unique experience for selfie enthusiasts or those just wanting to relax and unwind. This area is perfect for families, groups of friends, or solo adventurers looking to escape the city buzz without traveling far. Remember, it’s important to leave the area better than you found it by packing out all trash and respecting the natural setting. Sharing this location with others while preserving its beauty ensures that everyone can enjoy these hidden gems for years to come.
