Liver Cancer 🚨 is a major health problem and the leading cause of death in Thailand. Liver cancer is most often Hepatocellular Carcinoma - HCC, which is directly caused by liver cells.

⛔ 1. Main causes and risk factors

Most liver cancers are caused by chronic liver damage leading to cirrhosis, which is the most important risk factor.

Chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) infection: considered the main cause in Thailand and Asia.

🔺 cirrhosis from all causes:

Prolonged drinking of large quantities of alcohol

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which is commonly seen in obese and diabetic patients.

🔺 aflatoxin (Aflatoxin): Fungal toxins contaminated in peanut-type foods, dried peppers, or poorly preserved grains.

Heredity / Some Genetic Diseases: e.g., Hemochromatosis

⛔ 2. Symptoms of liver cancer

Unfortunately, early hepatocellular carcinoma is usually asymptomatic, so that patients often detect it when the disease has progressed. At the onset, it often shows the following signs:

🔺 pain or stiff cork: especially the area under the right truss, and may be anguish to the right or back shoulder.

🔺 common symptoms:

Fatigue. Irregular fatigue.

Anorexia. Weight loss for unknown reasons.

Nausea. Vomiting.

Flatulence. Inflation. Tight stomach.

Symptoms from liver failure / jaundice:

Yellow body, yellow eyes.

The urine is unusually dark.

The stools are pale.

The palpation found a lump in the liver or an abnormal stomach swelling.

⛔ 3. Treatment guidelines

Treatment guidelines are based on the size and number of cancer nodules, the location of the nodules, liver function, and the overall health of the patient.

🔺 treatment to hope for a cured effect (in the initial stage):

Surgical Resection: Remove only the cancerous nodules and some liver tissue.

Liver Transplantation: in patients with small nodules and poorly functioning liver (severe cirrhosis)

Ablation: such as radio (RFA) or microwave (MWA) hijacking

Topical chemotherapy administration (TACE): injection of chemotherapy in combination with atherosclerosis that feeds cancer nodules

⛔ 4. Prevention and screening

Because the initial stage is often asymptomatic, screening is very important, especially in vulnerable groups:
