It's me, your favorite 'CraneBrat', back with some more unfiltered thoughts and a deeper dive into what life's really like behind the scenes. You might know me as Bratafterhours, and if you're curious about what a young, Black, female operator gets up to, you're in the right place! My journey in North Charleston isn't just about operating heavy machinery; it's about breaking barriers and proving that passion knows no gender or race. Lately, my mind has been buzzing with one thing: leveling up my skills. That's why I mentioned adding to my certifications. It’s not just about earning another piece of paper; it’s about mastering my craft and ensuring I'm at the top of my game. In this field, continuous learning is key. Whether it's refreshing safety protocols or learning to handle the latest POTAIN crane models, every new cert opens up more opportunities and boosts my confidence. It can be tough, balancing work, studying, and trying to maintain some semblance of a social life, but the satisfaction of achieving a new qualification is unmatched. Being an operator, especially as a woman, comes with its unique set of challenges and triumphs. There are days I feel like I'm running on fumes, just like when I said I was 'sleepy than a mf'! But then there are those moments when I'm up in the cab, looking out over the city, and I remember why I do what I do. The power, the precision, the responsibility – it’s exhilarating. I often get asked what my 'after hours' look like. It's usually a mix of winding down, catching up on my favorite shows, hitting the books for those certs, or sometimes, just reflecting on the day's operations. Sometimes, I even use a simple cam to record quick thoughts or share glimpses of my day, offering a unique perspective you won't find just anywhere. For anyone out there dreaming of a non-traditional career, or feeling like their goals are too big, let my journey be a testament. It takes grit, determination, and a whole lot of self-belief. Don't be afraid to pursue what truly excites you, even if it means stepping into spaces where you're one of the few. I'm building my empire, one certification and one crane operation at a time, right here in North Charleston. Every 'random thought' I share is a piece of my ongoing adventure. Let's keep pushing forward!
