Today would have been my Aunt Gail’s 90th birthday. Looking back, I realize she wasn’t just my mom’s boss—she was the woman who gave me my first "seat at the table."
🏠 The Office That Raised Me
Growing up, the office was my playground. Aunt Gail and Eddie created a space where:
• 🐾 Pets were always welcome.
• 🎂 My birthdays were a celebrated event.
• 🗳️ I learned the ropes of politics and advocacy.
🔄 The Student Became the Teacher
I’ll never forget how Aunt Gail treated me as a peer. While she taught me about leadership, I taught her about Webkinz, secret handshakes, and the TV shows of my generation. She always told me I was a "teacher" at heart.
💧 Continuing the Legacy
Aunt Gail saw me as an advocate before I even knew what that meant. Today, I honor her by advocating for true health and financial freedom.
The community I’ve found here reminds me so much of the support she gave me—lifting others up while we grow together.
Happy Birthday, Aunt Gail. I’m still teaching, still advocating, and still making you proud. 🥂
... Read moreReflecting on Aunt Gail’s influence, I’ve come to appreciate the powerful role that early mentorship plays in shaping an advocate’s path. Growing up with access to such a supportive office environment—where pets felt like family, birthdays were celebrated, and learning politics wasn’t just theoretical but a lived experience—instilled in me the confidence to speak up and lead effectively.
One valuable lesson I learned was that advocacy is not just about pushing for change but about creating a space where others feel empowered to join in that journey. Aunt Gail’s approach was collaborative; she lifted people up and treated mentorship as a two-way street. Teaching her about my world of games and pop culture taught me that even informal exchanges can strengthen relationships and build bridges across generations.
Another aspect I cherish is how Aunt Gail helped me realize that advocacy includes personal well-being. Pursuing true health and financial freedom became central pillars in my work, echoing the holistic care I experienced in that office playground. Supporting the community while growing together has made my advocacy more grounded and impactful.
If you’re starting your own advocacy journey, I encourage you to find mentors who not only guide but also learn from you. Embrace opportunities to create inclusive spaces where everyone’s voice matters. Cherishing and continuing legacies like Aunt Gail’s reminds me that advocacy is about connection, growth, and shared victories—lessons I carry with me every day.
