Why My Heart Belongs to the Epilepsy Community 💜⛺️

It’s National Volunteer Week, and I wanted to share a look into the two roles that have truly shaped who I am. If you’re looking for a sign to get involved in your community, this is it!

01. Camp EAGR (Empowering People’s Independence) ⛺️

Being a counselor at Camp EAGR is an experience I can’t quite put into words. It’s a place where:

• Independence is celebrated in every small victory.

• The "camp magic" is real (and usually involves a lot of laughter).

• Campers living with epilepsy get to just be kids in a safe, supportive environment.

02. Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador 🗣️

Advocacy is close to my heart. Working with the Epilepsy Foundation allows me to:

• Spread awareness and educate others.

• Help #EndTheStigma surrounding seizures.

• Connect with a global community of warriors and heroes.

Why Volunteer? ✨

Volunteering doesn’t just help others—it gives you a sense of purpose and a family you didn't know you were missing. Whether it’s at camp or through advocacy, every bit of effort helps build a world that is more inclusive and understanding.

... Read moreVolunteering in the epilepsy community has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. At Camp EAGR, each day offers a unique opportunity to witness campers embracing their independence and simply enjoying the joys of childhood in a safe, supportive environment. What makes this camp truly special is the undeniable "camp magic"—a blend of laughter, friendship, and empowerment that uplifts both the campers and counselors alike. In addition to the camp experience, serving as an Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador has deepened my understanding and passion for advocacy. It’s fulfilling to actively spread awareness about epilepsy, educate others, and help dismantle the stigma surrounding seizures. Connecting with a global community of advocates and warriors reminds me that no one with epilepsy is alone; together, we are stronger. I’ve found that volunteering isn’t just about giving to others; it transforms you personally. You gain a sense of purpose and become part of a family bonded by shared values and goals. Through these roles, I’ve developed new skills, meaningful friendships, and an enriched perspective on resilience and community support. If you’re considering volunteering, especially in health or advocacy fields, this is your sign to take the leap. Whether it’s organizing events, supporting campers with epilepsy, or raising public awareness, your involvement makes a profound difference. Volunteering amplifies voices that need to be heard and builds a more inclusive, compassionate society. I encourage everyone to find a cause close to their heart and witness the unspoken joys of making a positive impact every day.
