Fixing My Bandanas
So I've made myself quite a collection of bandanas to wear. But I never blocked them because, one lazy, and two lazy 😂. So now that I have the new blocking boards and weather is getting nicer figured it's time to get it done.
Blocking your bandanas can drastically improve how they look and feel once you're done making them. I used to skip this step because, honestly, it seemed like too much effort. But once I got my hands on some good blocking boards and the weather started cooperating, I decided to give it a try — and I'm so glad I did! First, I wet my bandanas thoroughly but not dripping, then gently stretched them on my blocking boards to the right shape. Pinning is key; it helps maintain the edges and patterns without distortion. I also learned that spraying water evenly and letting the fabric dry completely is essential to set the shape permanently. One neat tip that helped me was measuring my bandana beforehand so that when pinned, I could maintain consistent sizes across my collection. This really made the finishing process look professional, and the bandanas laid flat instead of curling or folding awkwardly. As someone who took the lazy route for years, I can tell you that investing a bit of time in blocking really brings out the colors and the design detail of your bandanas. Now, I make sure to block every piece I create, especially as spring and summer come around, so they’re ready to wear and look great! Whether you're a beginner or seasoned maker, blocking can elevate your handmade items beyond just being cozy accessories.
