YALLLLLLL.. yall..
Iโve had my first six star read this year and I am LITerally salivating at how much I loved it. Itโs an urban fantasy with helsehers, werewolves, witches, warlocks, vampires, demons, familiars and more. Theres a little bit of mystery as well.
The plot is complex but also SO easy to digest. Plot to romance is balanced perfectly. Dare I say I cried multiple times while reading this, which totally caught me off guard.
The TENSION in this book is just.. chefs kiss ๐ค๐ผ it had me smiling, giggling, and kicking my feet. Darien Cassel is my new book boyfriend so yall can BACK UP ๐คบ๐คบ
The first three books are out and the fourth comes out this year!
I know my opinion isnโt that important but let me know if yall would like this to be a series ๐
... Read moreOkay, let's talk about 'City of Gods and Monsters' because I know many of you are curious about the 'spice level' and what this urban fantasy gem is all about! The article rates the spice at a 2/5 ๐ถ๏ธ, and I can confirm that's spot on. For me, a 2/5 means it's not overtly explicit, but there's an incredible amount of delicious tension, palpable chemistry, and undeniable longing that just simmers beneath the surface. It's the kind of 'slow burn with tension' that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making every stolen glance and witty retort feel utterly electrifying. If you adore a morally grey male lead, like Darien Cassel (my new book boyfriend, by the way!), and enjoy watching a powerful connection unfold through intense banter and emotional depth rather than just immediate physical acts, then this book absolutely delivers. Itโs steamy in all the right places, leaving enough to the imagination while still making you swoon and kick your feet with excitement!
Now, regarding the 'City of Gods and Monsters summary,' this book plunges you headfirst into a richly imagined urban fantasy world unlike any Iโve encountered. Imagine a contemporary city where helsehers, werewolves, witches, warlocks, vampires, demons, and familiars all coexist โ often uneasily. The plot is complex, yes, but itโs laid out in such a way that itโs incredibly easy to digest and get lost in. Our protagonist finds herself entangled in a deep mystery, uncovering secrets that threaten not only her own life but the delicate balance of the entire supernatural society. There are thrilling action sequences, intricate political maneuverings between the various factions, and unexpected twists that kept me guessing until the very end. It's a perfect blend of high stakes, compelling character arcs, and a world that feels both familiar and refreshingly unique.
The overall appeal, as hinted by the OCR, definitely lies in the combination of a 'morally grey MMC' with 'witty banter' and that fantastic 'slow burn with tension.' These elements are executed flawlessly, creating a relationship dynamic that is both captivating and endearing. Despite the dark undertones of the urban fantasy setting, the moments of connection and humor shine brightly. I honestly wasn't expecting to cry multiple times while reading this, but the emotional depth and character development caught me completely off guard in the best way possible. If youโre searching for your next obsessed-worthy read in the urban fantasy genre that balances a gripping plot with a swoon-worthy romance, look no further. This series starter is a masterpiece, and knowing there are more books out already means you can dive right into this incredible journey without waiting!
