Seattle roads tore up my tire

I'm in Seattle, and I just had a crazy experience. While driving, my tire suddenly started hissing and losing air. I hadn't run over any nails or foreign objects. When I took the tire off, I was shocked to see the inside was all beat up too, with all these small holes and damage.

I'm really curious if anyone else here in Seattle has had similar issues because of the roads. Do you think it's the condition of the roads causing this? Or could there be some other factor?
