... Read moreHey everyone! So, my previous post was a quick celebration of hitting 10,000 views on my first viral video, and honestly, it still feels surreal. Getting views on YouTube, especially as a new creator, can feel like shouting into the void sometimes. I know many of you are probably wondering, 'How did she do it?' or 'What's the secret to the YouTube algorithm for new channels?' Well, I'm here to share some of my personal observations and what I believe contributed to that breakthrough, hoping it helps you on your journey too! First off, let's be real: YouTube is a different beast from platforms like TikTok. While my video soared to over 10 million views there, getting even 1,000 views on YouTube felt like climbing Mount Everest. The YouTube algorithm, especially for new channels, really emphasizes watch time, audience retention, and engagement. It's not just about a quick scroll; it's about keeping people hooked with valuable content. My viral video, which garnered an amazing 10.2K views (and counting!), wasn't just pure luck. Looking at my analytics, that particular video had much higher watch time than my usual uploads. This tells me the algorithm noticed that people were actually sticking around. For new channels, this is crucial. Focus on creating content that people genuinely want to watch from start to finish. Don't just chase fleeting trends; think about what problem you can solve or what unique perspective you can offer that keeps viewers engaged. Another key factor was engagement. I saw 295 likes, 11 comments, and 3 shares on that video. Even though these numbers might seem small compared to the total views, for a new channel, they send strong signals to YouTube that viewers found the content valuable enough to interact with it. Make sure to respond to every comment, ask questions within your videos, and encourage likes and shares. These interactions help the algorithm understand that your content resonates with an audience, pushing it to more potential viewers. What I learned about the algorithm for new channels is that consistency matters, but quality often triumphs over mere quantity. Instead of churning out average videos daily, focus on making one or two really good ones each week. Think carefully about your thumbnails and titles too! They are your first impression to potential viewers. A compelling thumbnail and a clear, intriguing title (like the one that helped my video reach a peak of 10,266 views, which was 9.4K more than usual!) can significantly boost your click-through rate, which is another signal the algorithm absolutely loves. Don't forget the power of niche. When you're a new channel, trying to appeal to everyone often means appealing to no one. My video resonated with a specific audience, and that helped YouTube figure out who to show it to. This focused targeting led to a gain of 9 subscribers from just that one video – a huge win for a small channel that's just starting out! Finally, don't be afraid to promote your YouTube videos on other platforms, like I did with TikTok. While YouTube wants people to stay on its platform, external traffic can sometimes give your videos that initial push they need to get noticed by the algorithm. And always, always analyze your YouTube Studio! It provides so much data on what's working and what's not. Keep experimenting, keep learning, and don't give up. The breakthrough might be closer than you think!
