Growing up as a Chapina has always been a source of immense pride and connection to Guatemala’s vibrant culture. To me, being Chapina is more than just a label—it’s a deep-rooted identity defined by the warmth of the people, the colorful traditions, and the resilient spirit carried through generations. One of the most memorable parts of Chapina culture is the way families come together during festivals and holidays. The sounds of marimba music, the aroma of traditional dishes like pepian and kak'ik, and the sight of beautifully embroidered textiles are all symbols of a shared history and love for our country. These experiences foster a sense of belonging that stays with you no matter where you go. In everyday life, Chapina pride manifests through language, customs, and even the little things—such as wearing the blue and white flag with honor or sharing stories about Guatemala's landscapes and people. It’s also about recognizing the challenges our country faces while celebrating the progress and the hope for a brighter future. Being Chapina also means embracing diversity. Guatemala is home to various indigenous groups, each contributing unique traditions and perspectives. Appreciating this cultural mosaic enriches our understanding and respect for what it means to be Guatemalan.
