This might be one of the easiest day trips from /Madrid 🧳🇪🇸
After visiting /Burgos, I wanted to explore more of /Castile and León, and /Valladolid ended up being the perfect next stop. It’s only about 1.5 hours from Burgos by car and also really easy to reach from Madrid (~1 hour by train). 🛤
Compared to some of Spain’s more popular destinations, Valladolid feels much more relaxed and local. It’s super walkable, full of beautiful plazas and historic architecture, and the tapas are honestly so good here!

Having visited Valladolid myself, I can attest to how charming and peaceful this city feels compared to Spain's more tourist-heavy cities. One of my favorite experiences was strolling through Plaza Mayor, where locals gather to enjoy a coffee or a light snack under the warm Spanish sun. The square's vibrant atmosphere really gives you a taste of authentic Spanish daily life. Another highlight was Parque de las Moreras, a beautifully maintained park surrounded by the Pisuerga River. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely walk, a picnic, or simply to relax away from the bustling city streets. Nearby, the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Valladolid stands out with its impressive Baroque architecture; climbing to the rooftop offers stunning panoramic views of the city that should not be missed. The Iglesia de Santa María de la Antigua, with its striking Romanesque tower, is a gem for history lovers and offers a fascinating glimpse into Valladolid’s religious heritage. When it comes to food, tapas hopping at El Corcho is a must. Their croquetas are iconic and paired with a glass of local wine or vermouth, it’s a culinary delight. The tapas bars around Plaza de Colón also offer an excellent atmosphere to unwind after a day exploring. Getting to Valladolid is very convenient, especially via train from Madrid, making it an ideal day trip that combines culture, gastronomy, and relaxation. If you want to experience Spain beyond the typical tourist trail, Valladolid provides a richly rewarding itinerary.
