I miss when this was a girl's girl app.

I used to come to lemon8 when I wanted to wind down and take a break from all of the other toxic apps. It used to be so positive here there was nothing but job advice, people introducing themselves, vacationing videos, aesthetic pictures. and the few people who weren't positive we would just ignore.

but now it's filled with so much hate and ignorance. everywhere you look there's a Republican screaming in the corner about Trump, or someone being unnecessarily mean for no reason. it's so tiring and honestly I think this app is starting to get more toxic than Instagram and Twitter.

you can even tell that the apps creators are trying to bring back that positive vibe that the app originally had but it's just impossible cuz it's been overrun by hatred and weird behavior.

#oldlemon8 #positivity

2025/11/4 Edited to

... Read moreMany longtime users of Lemon8 share the sentiment of missing the app’s original positive and inspiring vibe. At first, Lemon8 was a refreshing social platform where a community thrived on sharing uplifting content such as job tips, vacation highlights, and beauty inspiration—including helpful Walmart finds for self-care like pretty and healthy-looking feet under $15. Users quickly bonded over authentic experiences and fun discoveries, crafting a girls' app vibe that felt safe and supportive. However, the app’s atmosphere has noticeably shifted as political debates and hostile interactions increasingly dominate the platform, making it less enjoyable for those seeking the original sense of calm and encouragement. Users often encounter divisive discussions, which contrasts sharply with the app’s initial intention to be a positive, niche community space. It’s worth noting that the app’s creators are aware of this shift and have tried to restore Lemon8’s friendly and positive environment. Campaigns and features targeting increased positivity and user well-being have been introduced, but battling the widespread negativity and hatred remains a challenge. Some users cling to hashtags like #oldlemon8 and #positivity as a way to seek and promote content aligned with the original community spirit. For users longing to recapture the essence of the app, focusing on niche interests and sharing practical advice—such as easy at-home pedicure tips or natural feminine care solutions—may help rebuild smaller positive circles. Additionally, engaging with content around self-care, affordable beauty products, and wellness can steer interactions toward supportive and meaningful exchanges. Ultimately, Lemon8’s transition highlights a growing challenge in social media: balancing free expression with fostering a community that upholds respect and encouragement. For Lemon8 to regain its status as a girl’s girl app, it may require both user commitment to positive interaction and sustained effort from the platform to curb hostility. Meanwhile, users who miss the original vibe are encouraged to actively create and share content that embodies the values of kindness, creativity, and mutual support, helping to inspire a new wave of upliftment and connection within the app community.
