หลายคนถามกันบ่อยว่า “text completion คืออะไร” ในข้อสอบ TGAT1 และควรใช้ “text completion เทคนิค” แบบไหนถึงทำทันและแม่นขึ้น จากที่เจอในห้องสอบ/ทำข้อสอบเก่า ๆ มา พาร์ตนี้คือการเติมคำหรือวลีให้ช่องว่าง โดยโจทย์จะวัด 2 อย่างหลัก ๆ คือ 1) ไวยากรณ์ (grammar) และ 2) ความหมายให้เข้ากับบริบท (meaning & coherence) 1) ทำความเข้าใจก่อนว่า Text Completion วัดอะไร - โจทย์จะให้ประโยค/ย่อหน้าสั้น ๆ แล้วเว้นช่องว่างไว้ 1 จุด (บางชุดอาจมากกว่า) ให้เราเลือกคำที่ “เข้ารูปประโยค” และ “ทำให้ใจความลื่นไหล” - ข้อที่พลาดง่ายคือเราอ่านความหมายถูก แต่เลือกคำผิดชนิดคำ (part of speech) ทำให้แกรมม่าร์พัง 2) เทคนิคสแกนเร็ว 10 วินาทีก่อนเลือกคำตอบ (ก) ดูคำก่อน–หลังช่องว่างว่าเป็น N. / V. / Adj. / ประโยค - ถ้าหลังช่องว่างเป็นคำนาม/วลีคำนาม → มักต้องใช้คำที่ตามด้วย N. - ถ้าหลังช่องว่างเป็น “ประโยค” (มี S + V) → มักต้องใช้คำเชื่อมที่ตามด้วย clause (ข) มองสัญญาณ punctuation โดยเฉพาะ comma (,) - หลายข้อจะใส่ comma มาช่วยบอกโครงสร้าง เช่น วลีเปิดประโยค + comma แล้วตามด้วยประโยคหลัก - ตัวอย่างแนวเดียวกับที่ชอบออก: “____ high prices, many youngsters still buy matcha drinks.” ถ้าเห็น “high prices” เป็น N. ชัด ๆ โอกาสสูงคือ Despite 3) Despite vs Although จำแบบไม่ง้อท่องเยอะ - Despite = prep. ตามด้วย “คำนาม/วลีคำนาม (N.)” เช่น Despite the rain, … / Despite high prices, … - Although = conj. ตามด้วย “ประโยค (S + V)” เช่น Although it was raining, … ทริคที่ช่วยได้จริง: ถ้าลองเติมแล้วต้องมี “it/they/he + verb” ตามหลัง ให้เอนเอียงไป Although 4) เช็กความหมายให้เข้ากับบริบท (กันหลงตัวเลือกหลอก) โจทย์ Text Completion มักหลอกด้วยคำความหมายใกล้กัน เช่น because/although/despite หรือ however/therefore ดังนั้นหลังเลือกจากแกรมม่าร์แล้ว ให้ถามตัวเองต่อว่า “ประโยคนี้ต้องการ ‘ขัดแย้ง’ หรือ ‘เหตุผล’ หรือ ‘ผลลัพธ์’ กันแน่” ถ้าเป็นแนว “แม้ว่า…แต่…” ก็อยู่กลุ่ม Despite/Although 5) วิธีซ้อมให้คะแนนขึ้นไว - ทำข้อสอบเก่าแล้วไฮไลต์คำที่ออกซ้ำ (เช่น despite, although, however) - จดเป็นคู่ตรงข้าม/คำที่สับสนง่าย พร้อมแพตเทิร์นตามหลัง - ทุกครั้งที่ผิด ให้เขียนเหตุผลว่า “ผิดเพราะแกรมม่าร์” หรือ “ผิดเพราะความหมาย” จะแก้ได้ตรงจุดมาก สรุปสั้น ๆ: Text Completion คือการเติมคำให้ถูกทั้งโครงสร้างและความหมาย ถ้าเห็นว่าหลังช่องว่างเป็น N. ให้คิดถึง Despite แต่ถ้าหลังช่องว่างเป็นประโยค S+V ให้คิดถึง Although ก่อนเป็นอันดับแรก เทคนิคนี้ช่วยตัดช้อยส์ได้เร็วและลดความพลาดในห้องสอบมาก ๆ
