CHD JOURNEY
Today was Abbys procedure with the hopes of replacing her shunt. Upon further review her heart still isnt big enough but we are on track for a new treatment plan. So once her recovery from the CATH LAB is done she will be going back to school and will remain under cardio observation. #chd #chdawareness #tof #tetralogyoffallot #journey
Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) encompasses a range of structural heart defects present from birth, often requiring complex and ongoing medical care. One common heart defect included under CHD is Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a condition involving four heart malformations that affect blood flow and oxygenation. Treatment for CHD, such as shunt placement or replacement, aims to improve heart function and overall health. Procedures like catheterization in the CATH LAB help physicians assess heart size and functionality to determine the best treatment plan. Recovery after such interventions requires close cardiac observation to monitor progress and detect any complications early. Importantly, maintaining a normal daily routine, including school attendance where possible, supports emotional well-being and social development. Advances in pediatric cardiology have improved survival and quality of life for children with CHD, though individualized care plans remain essential due to the complexity of each case. Awareness and education about CHD and TOF promote early diagnosis and support for affected children and their families. Regular follow-ups with cardiologists ensure timely adjustments in treatment and monitoring of heart health throughout growth and development. This journey underscores the importance of multidisciplinary care teams, combining expertise in surgery, cardiology, and rehabilitation to optimize outcomes for children like Abby.
