✨️Bacteria Watercolor Background✨️
This will be the background for my journal entries this month. This month the theme is germs inspired buy my husbands suggestion. I think this is so cute! This is the first time I've ever painted something like this, new obsession unlocked? I absolutely LOVE Tthe colors I used. Before starting I looked up a few different color pallets and I’m so glad I did because I don't know if I would have chosen these otherwise.
Does anyone else like to add some backgrounds behind their diary / journal entries? Am I the only one? I can't be. Maybe the algorithm will bring someone else into my feed that also likes a little pizazz behind their writing 🙏
I've been using the Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils for my journal entry backgrounds for almost 1 year now and I am quite fond of them. They don't life much once they dry down, they can also be used on fabric.

Hey everyone! So glad you're here checking out my latest journal creation. After diving headfirst into this 'bacteria watercolor background' for my December journal theme, I wanted to share a few more tips and tricks I've picked up along the way for creating unique backgrounds for your journal or even just for fun. First off, let's talk about watercolor background ideas. Beyond my current germ-inspired theme, which I absolutely adore, there are so many directions you can go! I often start by thinking about the overall mood or topic of my journal entries for the month. For instance, if it’s a cozy month, I might go for warm, earthy tones with soft washes. If it’s an adventurous month, maybe some vibrant splashes or even a subtle abstract landscape. Don't be afraid to experiment with different color pairings. Like I mentioned in my post, looking up color palettes beforehand saved me this time, and it’s a game-changer! Pinterest is my go-to for inspiration; just search for 'aesthetic watercolor palettes' or 'journal background ideas watercolor'. When it comes to background writing, the key is to make sure your beautiful background doesn't overwhelm your actual journal entries. I find lighter washes work best, especially in the areas where I plan to write extensively. Or, if I use bolder colors, I make sure there are still lighter sections, or I use a white gel pen or a fine-tipped black pen that stands out. The Derwent Inktense pencils I use are fantastic because once they're dry, they don't lift much, so my writing doesn't bleed or smudge. This is super important for maintaining a clean, readable journal. For those of you who love the look of aesthetic watercolor wallpaper, you can totally achieve that vibe right in your journal! Think about smooth transitions between colors, creating a gradient effect, or using a 'wet-on-wet' technique for soft, dreamy blurs. You can also try adding little details with a fine brush or a different color pencil once the first layer is dry. Sometimes I'll add tiny speckles or stars for an extra magical touch. It’s all about building layers and not being afraid to let the water do its magic. And speaking of my 'germ' theme, how about exploring more cute science backgrounds? This was such a fun challenge for me! I'm already brainstorming ideas for future months: maybe a 'celestial bodies' theme with nebulas and stars, or a 'botanical wonderland' with microscopic plant cells. You could even do a 'molecular structure' theme with abstract shapes and lines. The possibilities are endless once you start seeing the beauty in the scientific world. It’s a fantastic way to combine your love for art and curiosity. A practical tip that has made a huge difference for me is the paper quality. My Primrosia watercolor dot grid journal with 160gsm paper holds up so well to the water without buckling or bleeding through. If you’re just starting, don’t feel like you need expensive supplies, but good paper really does make the process more enjoyable and the results more satisfying. I truly believe that adding these personal touches makes journaling so much more meaningful. It transforms a blank page into a little piece of art that reflects your mood and creativity. So, if you've been on the fence about adding backgrounds, I say go for it! You might just unlock a new obsession like I did. Happy journaling!
