I Never Thought I’d Get Locs… Until I Learned the Truth ✨🔒Part 2

DIY Micro Locs! I Wasn't About To Pay No $1,000 When I Could Just Take The Time To Do It Myself!

For the longest time, I believed all the myths.

“Locs collect lint.”

“Locs get dirty.”

“Locs are dirty.”

But after educating myself, I realized something that completely changed my perspective.

✨ Locs aren’t dirty. They can collect lint and buildup because of their unique structure—not because they’re unhygienic. Just like fabric can hold lint, locs can too. Healthy locs are built through proper cleansing, moisturizing, and maintenance.

Another thing nobody prepared me for? The in-between stage.

Everyone talks about starter locs and mature locs, but hardly anyone talks about the patience it takes in the middle. So many people compare their journey to someone who’s been growing their locs for years, forgetting that every set of locs has its own timeline.

I used to be someone who said I’d never get locs.

Now? Loc it up and throw away the key. 😂

At this point in my life, convenience matters. I’m tired of manipulating my hair, dealing with excessive shedding, and watching my length disappear because I’m constantly styling it. I’ve been stuck at bra-strap length for yearssss, and I’m ready to let my hair thrive with less manipulation.

Yes, I know my Micro Locs will shrink in the beginning. But this time, I’m focused on the long game instead of instant results. I’m trusting the process, embracing the journey, and choosing patience over frustration.

This isn’t just a hairstyle for me—it’s a mindset shift.

Here’s to healthier hair, freedom, and finally enjoying the journey instead of rushing the destination. 🤎✨

Have you ever changed your mind about locs after learning more about them? I’d love to hear your story! 👇

... Read moreWhen I started my micro locs journey, what surprised me most was how much patience it truly requires. Many people talk about the excitement of starter locs or the beauty of mature locs, but the phase in the middle—the transition period—is where the real challenge lies. Your locs will go through stages where they might look a bit messy or feel fragile, but this is completely normal and part of the process. One helpful tip I discovered during my DIY micro locs experience was the importance of using the right tools and products to maintain cleanliness and moisture. For example, gentle residue-free shampoos and lightweight oils keep locs healthy without causing buildup. Also, regular palm rolling or twisting helps keep locs neat and encourages uniform locking. Lint accumulation can be a concern with locs because of their textured nature, but it’s more about the environment and hair care habits than hygiene. Wearing head coverings at night and washing hair properly reduces lint buildup. This understanding completely changed my mindset from fearing 'dirty' locs to confidently maintaining my hair’s health. Another benefit I found with micro locs is the convenience. I no longer spend hours manipulating and styling my hair, which means less breakage and shedding. The initial shrinkage stage can feel discouraging, but focusing on long-term growth helped me embrace the change. It’s a mindset shift—locs are not just a hairstyle but a lifestyle choice that nurtures hair health through less stress and more patience. In sharing my journey, I encourage anyone curious about locs to educate themselves, trust the process, and enjoy each stage of growth. The loc community is incredibly supportive, and connecting with others who share their experiences helped me stay motivated. What I learned is that every set of locs is unique, and comparison only hinders progress. Embrace your timeline, and let your hair thrive naturally.
