In my experience, golf has become an unlikely yet powerful form of therapy. The physical act of hitting a golf ball allows me to channel feelings of anger, frustration, and helplessness into something tangible and controlled. Beyond the exercise, golf offers a rare opportunity for mindfulness and escape. Each swing requires focus on the present moment—nothing else matters except the ball, the club, and the course. This sharp attention helps quiet the overwhelming thoughts about illness and uncertainty. The natural surroundings and repetitive motion contribute to a calming effect that is hard to find elsewhere. Many people facing similar emotional turmoil have found that sports like golf provide not only physical health benefits, but also mental resilience. Taking the time to engage in such activities can break the cycle of negative emotions and restore a sense of normalcy and empowerment. Connecting with this sport during difficult times reminds me that while I cannot control everything happening around me, I do have control over my effort and mindset on the course. This perspective is invaluable when confronting the harsh realities of cancer and other life struggles. Encouraging others to explore hobbies or exercises that resonate with them could be a crucial step toward healing both body and mind.
